Job Description

The Early Intervention Unit is currently seeking a qualified person for the position of Claim Specialist Level 3 in its Tort Division. This position encompasses responsible work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility performed under supervision of higherlevel staff and/or attorneys.

Under supervision with latitude for independent initiative and judgment performs sophisticated legal tasks including but not limited to the application of significant legal judgment as well as the ability to instruct legal principles to others under their supervision:

Directly supervise the pleadings support professionals monitor pleadings timelines and answer assignments.
Assist in the development coaching training and mentoring of team.
Provide guidance to pleaders regarding the proper handling of cases.
Liaise between the pleadings support staff and the Pleadings ACC and address any issues questions or concerns.
Collaborate with the Pleadings ACC in drafting the meeting agenda for the biweekly pleadings roundtable.
Work with the legal team to analyze pleadings statistics and recognize trends for bimonthly THEMIS meetings.
Responsible for case assignments approving time sheets overtime eforms time and leave monitor daily workflow and prepare staff evaluations for pleaders.
Review Summons & Complaints for assignment to EIUs Insurance Takeover team or other divisions if applicable.
Hold MidYear meetings.
Draft support professional evaluations.
Train coordinate interview and evaluate the activities of the support professionals so as to maximize the teams full potential.
Collaborate with IT System Analysts in the furtherance of the refinement of the Hot Docs answer software program to help meet the growing needs of the Unit.
Oversee the agency end of the 50h Stipulation of Unavailability (SOU) program.
Monitor the voluminous data entry processes for the pleadings.
Work closely with Operations to ensure the smooth and timely uploading and delivery of thousands of new tort actions.
Monitor and cover staff absences and prepare answers as needed.
Review separate and distribute EIU mail.
Answer general questions regarding the status of answer assignments.
Review cases with an eye toward raising appropriate defenses in a wide array of tort actions.
Supervise investigatory efforts concerning the validity of plaintiffs claims regarding municipal ownership of real property vehicles and the employment of staff
Calculate the statutory framework governing the service and preparation of complaints and answers.
Some of the physical activities performed and environmental conditions experienced include lifting and carrying boxes and files; climbing stairs; and traveling throughout the City on all types of public transportation and/or walking in all kinds of weather carrying files.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or

2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and two years of fulltime satisfactory experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss; or

3. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of fulltime satisfactory
experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss; or

4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above.

College education may be substituted for experience as described in 2 or 3 above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of
required experience. However all candidates must have a fouryear high school diploma or its
educational equivalent.
