Job Summary:

The School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Director of the Clinical Pillar a pivotal leadership role focused on advancing clinical education across all phases of the medical curriculum.

Reporting to the Executive Vice Dean with a dottedline reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Assessment Evaluations and Outcomes (AEO) and Curriculum Associate Deans the Director of the Clinical Pillar plays a pivotal role in leading the design integration and continuous improvement of clinical education across all phases of the medical curriculum. Collaborating closely with course directors phase deans and pillar leads the director maintains continuity in language assessment formats and competency milestones.

Responsibilities include collaborating with phase deans and ensuring spiraling of clinical curriculum from Developing Our Clinical Skills (DOCS) through clerkship and into the Advanced Science Courses (ASCs) and Acting Internships managing faculty development and collaborating with other pillar directors to ensure integration of health systems and medical sciences content.

The role also involves shaping and maintaining assessment strategies and grading policies in collaboration with the Office of Assessment Evaluations and Outcomes (AEO) and course leaders while regularly reviewing clinical skills assessments to ensure alignment and data integrity. Additionally the director leads key curriculum committees supports faculty and resident development in assessment practices and provides annual reports and continuous quality improvement updates to institutional leadership.

  • Clinical Pillar Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Curriculum Integration and Oversight

  • Ensure seamless teaching and assessment of clinical competenciescommunication documentation physical exam technical skills and proceduresthrough all phases from DOCS to Acting Internships transitioning from generalized to specialized practice.
  • Work closely with course directors phase deans and directors of Medical Science and Health System Science to align language assessment formats and content integration across all curricular pillars and phases.
  • Conduct annual updates of the curriculum map review learning objectives refine patient care milestones and support smooth content handoffs between phases to maintain a cohesive and outcomesdriven curriculum.

Assessment Strategy and Policies

  • Develop and lead clinical pillar assessment approaches grounded in educational best practices ensuring alignment with institutional goals across all phases of the curriculum.
  • Partner with the AEO office phase deans and content directors to establish consistent clinical assessment policies and tools for all curricular levelsPlains Foothills and Alpine/Summit.
  • Oversee the alignment continuity and effectiveness of clinical skills assessments support milestone tracking and collaborate on outcome data aggregation and visualization through Dashfolio.

Grading and Data Management

  • Collaborate with course directors and the AEO to develop assessment tools and grading policies support clinical course directors (CCDs) throughout the grading process and review all clerkship grades to ensure accuracy fairness and consistency.

Faculty and Resident Development

  • Develop and deliver training tools and resources to enhance faculty and resident understanding of clinical assessment practices promoting consistency and effectiveness across the curriculum.

Committee Leadership and Participation

  • Chair the Clinical Course Directors (CCD) Committee manage meeting logistics and ensure effective delegation and followthrough on key initiatives.
  • Participate in major curriculum and leadership committees lead annual clinical pillar reviews with specialty directors and present outcomes and continuous quality improvement (CQI) updates to the Curriculum Steering Committee (CSC).

Work Location:

Hybrid this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and inperson meetings.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: The salary range for this position is set between $37500 $75000 representing an estimated 0.3 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250000 annually and will depend on the individuals current 1.0 FTE salary.

Associate Professor: The salary range for this position is set between $37500 $75000 representing an estimated 0.3 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250000 annually and will depend on the individuals current 1.0 FTE salary.
