Summary
The Physical Therapist (PT) plays a vital role in supporting students with disabilities by enhancing their physical function mobility and overall quality of life through targeted therapeutic interventions. Within the Harlandale Independent School District (HISD) the PT is responsible for assessing students physical needs developing individualized treatment plans and delivering both consultative and direct therapy services as determined appropriate by the Admission Review and Dismissal Committee (ARDC). The PT ensures that all services align with educational goals and comply with district and federal guidelines.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Must hold a current Physical Therapist license in the state of Texas.
- Certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) preferred.
- CardioPulmonary Resuscitation certified in accordance with the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program.
- Experience working with special needs patients.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Implementation of PT Services:
- Deliver physical therapy interventions as outlined in each students IEP.
- Adapt and modify activities to support student access to the educational environment.
Evaluation and Eligibility Determination:
- Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations in accordance with District and Federal educational guidelines.
- Participate in the eligibility determination process as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
IEP Development and Participation:
- Collaborate with IEP teams to develop individualized goals and objectives based on evaluation results.
- Attend and contribute to IEP meetings providing professional input on student needs and progress.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all services are delivered within the timelines mandated by federal law (e.g. IDEA).
- Submit completed evaluations and documentation in a timely manner prior to billing.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate records of services provided.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with teachers parents and other service providers to support student success.
- Communicate effectively with school staff and families regarding student progress and needs.
Adherence to Standards and Ethics:
- Follow District standards and protocols for assessment evaluation and service delivery.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards in all interactions and documentation.
