    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    The Special Education Diagnostician is directly responsible to the Special Education Director and
    the Campus Principal. The function of the Educational Diagnostician is to serve as a leader of the
    special education appraisal team and a representative of the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD)
    process ensuring compliance with all state federal and local requirements.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Certification as established by TEA
    Capable of working very closely with teachers and staff members
    Familiar with the roles of the other special education personnel and the procedure for utilizing
    their services when necessary.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    Appraisal Management

    Serves on the appraisal team with responsibilities in assessing compiling and securing reportsand information from various appraisal sources and interprets this information into a writtenreport which follows Individual with Disabilities Education Act (Idea) and Texas Education Agency(TEA) guidelines for each disability and/or related services.
    Complies with all federal state local and campus policies operating procedures and legalrequirements.
    Assumes responsibilities for all assigned student folders to ensure that compliance standardsare met.
    Reviews follows and maintains evaluative techniques kits manuals etc. as needed.
    Maintains a list of students requiring threeyear reevaluations and completes all assessmentswithin the required time period.
    Utilizes technology to facilitate in scoring interpreting and in developing assessmentreports.
    ARD Process Management
    Assists in organizing data collected by the appraisal process into individual educational plansbased on the profile of strengths and weaknesses during initial assessments and new to districtplacements.
    Participates when required by law as a member of the Admission Review and Dismissal Committeeto assist with interpretation of assessment data development of Individual Education Plans (IEP)and appropriate placement to determine appropriateeducational programming for special educationstudents.
    Compiles reviews and interprets new information received from districts and/or professionalagencies.
    Reviews all ARD forms and documents needed for compliance with state and federalregulation.
    Case Management
    Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parentsstudents teachers and other professionals concerning vital issues of the assessment process.
    Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
    Uses appropriate and accurate written verbal and nonverbal communication when conferring withparents staff and other professionals.
    Serves as case manager for assigned students at their campus(es).
    School and Organizational Climate
    Works collaboratively and constructively with colleagues and other professionals towards meetingindividual student needs.
    Serves as a liaison between campus and the Special Education Department.
    Promotes and supports environment which is conducive to positive staff morale and directedtowards achievement of the campuses departments and districts mission.
    Professional Growth and Development
    Takes initiative to participate in professional development activities correlated to thechildcentered process with emphasis on special education assessments (ie. IDEA TEA requirementsand District Effectiveness Compliance reference guide).
    Provides information to staff (regular and special education) and/or parents related to thechild centered process and assessment.
    Conducts oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally acceptedcommunity standards complies with TEA Code of Ethics and serves as role model for all districtstaff.
    Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Monitors and provides input in the evaluation process of the Special Education campusclerk

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Maintain emotional control under stress; meet deadlines; occasional prolonged and irregularhours;
    lifting an carrying test materials of moderate weight; repetitive hand and wrist motions;frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
