Position Summary: Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital has an opportunity available for a full time Surgical Scrub Technician (Scrub Tech) to work in our busy 8bed Surgical Department. Surgical Services include Orthopedic Dental Optometric General Surgery Podiatry Endoscopy and OBGYN.

Typical shifts are Monday through Friday 8 hours per day based on scheduled cases for the day. 1 in 4 call and 1 in 4 weekends is required.

The Surgical Technologist/scrub tech position will work as part of the operating room team in the OR scrubbing the case ensuring patient safety processes are in place and followed. In addition this role will assist with the following:

  • Prepares and maintains surgical instruments in the OR suite and ensures their proper setup.
  • Assists surgical team during the surgical procedure(s).
  • Understands the procedures being performed and can anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during procedure.
  • Handles instruments and supplies correctly and ensures their proper functioning. Responsible for all instruments maintaining them in good working order and assuring the availability of needed instruments to do all surgical cases.
  • Maintains sterile field and counts all instruments sponges needles etc needed for each case. Has necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operative procedures.
  • Cleans assembles and prepares instruments equipment and supplies for sterilization when needed. Follows proper sterilization processes. Participates in testing and recording of all biotesting for the sterilizers and autoclaves in the department as needed.
  • Responsible for confirming equipment while in the OR/Procedure room and that the sterile field has been appropriately processed/sterilized.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree preferred
  • Experience: At least 1 year experience in a general OR environment required. Successful incumbent will possess basic computer skills.
  • Licensure and Certification: Surgical Technologist Certification (NCCT or NBSTSA) preferred or RN License required. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 60days
