The Diet Tech is responsible for assisting the hospital dietitians in the provision of optimal quality medical nutrition therapy of patients. The Diet Tech works closely with the dietitians to gather pertinent information to help the dietitians identify patients at nutrition risk assess needs develop and implement care plans and monitor the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy interventions. The diet tech collaborates with other members of the health care team and provides education to patients and families on appropriate food selections and eating behaviors to accomplish patient goals. The Diet Tech also assists in providing nutrition education to staff and mentors students.

Assists clinical dietitians in provision of quality nutritional care for patients and staff. Completes MDS and RAPS as part of overall care plan of patients. Works with families to provide optimum nutrition care for the customer.
Bachelors degree in Food Management or Dietetics/Nutrition or Dietetic Technicians Associates degree or successful completion of a Food Service Management course eligible for certification as a Member of the American Dietetic Association or the Certified Dietetic Managers Association. Understanding of medical terminology is required. Additional training and education includes onthejob training for six months. Experience in hospital food service including work with modified diets menus and nourishment required. Certified ADA Dietetic Technician certified Illinois Sanitation and CPR desirable.
