Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason thisposition exists is to assist with the direction of the Montgomery Zoo educationprogramming. Work responsibilities includeassisting citizens and/or teachers with developing educational materials orprograms; contributes support to the education programs by researching planningand preparing education support materials; performs animal care duties; assistswith preparing and giving public presentations; provides assists with recruitingtraining managing and planning the activities of adult and youthvolunteers. Work is performed under thegeneral supervision of the Zoo Education Curator at Montgomery Zoo.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six(6) months of paid experience working with the care of wild and exotic animals.

NOTE: Qualifying education trainingand experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work nightsholidays or weekends as needed to promote special events or programs and toattend out of town conferences or meetings as needed. Must be able to obtain aTB test and CPR training within the first month of employment.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the current vacancyis with theCity of Montgomery Zoo. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. If more than five qualified applications are received the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations Rule VII Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
