Gas Laborer
Work Location: Brookings SD
Pay range: Union Rate $27.88 per hour
Employment Status: Seasonal Fulltime (layoff expected 12/31/2025 subject to recall the following spring)

About this position:
The Gas Laborer performs various manual labor and equipment operation tasks to assist the gas crew to install maintain and service gas distribution lines and equipment. This is a seasonal entrylevel position that may be used to prepare the worker for entry into a Gas Technician apprenticeship. The Laborer may be called upon to assist gas crews in emergency situations. Laborer will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Gas Technician.

About this job:
- Assist the gas crew to install maintain and service gas distribution lines and equipment
- Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations
- Assist gas crew in response to natural gas emergencies and service work regarding all aspects of natural gas
- Safely and skillfully operate equipment shovels and hand tools to dig around pipelines and other utilities uncover lines and backfill trenches
- Use heavy handheld tamping or jackhammer equipment to prepare or finish site work
- Complete finish work associated with gas services including wrapping and coating pipes
- Ability to work overtime hours
- Work as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activities
- Communicate as needed to maintain safe working conditions

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Drivers License and satisfactory driving record Commercial Drivers License a plus
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Knowledge of applicable codes and safety policies/procedures
- Computer skills essential
- Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
- Selection into an apprenticeship will require the successful candidate to agree to live within an area approved by the company that allows for adequate response to our customers in call out and emergency situations
