Job Description

Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday –Friday overtime as needed

SUMMARY

The primary function of the OptoMechanical Assembly Department is to assemble optical and mechanical components together to meet customer requirements. As a member of this department the Optical Assembly Technician will be responsible for correctly following work instructions to assemble optics into housings on a production schedule. The work takes place primarily in a clean room environment.

Optical Assembly Technician I – The employee shall be expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed below with supervisory guidance and training. Once trained the technician will be able to perform the tasks with minimal supervision.

Optical Assembly Technician II – The employee shall be expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed below at a high level of proficiency and with minimal supervision. In addition the employee shall provide guidance and mentoring to level I technicians. The employee should be able to identify assembly process improvements and bring them to the attention of the Optical Assembly Supervisor for further review.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily after completing the initial training. The individual should be detailoriented and adept at following assembly instructions. The individual shall perform the assembly steps correctly in the same way each time. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Overtime hours may be required if needed
  • Safety:Hazardous materials Escape Routes Proper Apparel
  • Wearing of personal protective equipment required for clean room work.
  • General flow of parts through plant.
  • Quality Policy and other general quality issues.
  • Understanding and use of pertinent work instructions and procedures.
  • Proper handling of optics and mechanical parts
  • Cleaning of components
  • Scanning parts
  • Identification of lens types and sides
  • Control of nonconforming product
  • Measuring Instruments use and care

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle parts. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Walking is required when transporting parts from one area to another. Employee must be able to see up close (with or without corrective lenses) to check quality of work.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because a person working in this position under the influence of or alcohol including medical may constitute a threat to health or safety which includes but is not limited to working with hazardous or flammable materials operating repairing maintaining or monitoring machinery or motor vehicles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work will be performed primarily in a clean room environment where control of contaminants and particulates is critical. The worker will be expected to wear cleanroomcompatible overgarments (i.e. lab coat gloves hairnet booties) upon entering the cleanroom. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
