Job Description:
Our client a leading mining company with multiple operations globally is seeking a VP Engineering Energy and Decarbonisation. Some core duties include driving and participating in the development and implementation of the Group climate change policy governance strategy objectives and targets; Ensuring that strategic and operational plans are aligned to the Group Energy and Decarbonisation Strategy across all Regions; and enhancing sustainability through reduced energy and carbon costs.
Responsibilities:
- Set the Group energy GHG emissions and decarbonisation policy governance strategy objectives and targets in line with the Group Strategy.
- Drive the delivery of carbon neutrality by 2040 / net carbon zero by 2050.
- Assess corporate strategy opportunities relating to energy and decarbonisation.
- Provide strategic guidance on and support in integration of Mergers and Acquisitions in relation to energy and decarbonisation.
- Lead the coordination of the Group demandside energy management strategy and ensure compliance with targets through the Regions.
- Provide strategic guidance and assist in the development of the South African electricity supply industry to enable decarbonisation.
- Entrench operational adaptation and resilience to the effects of climate change relating to energy and GHG emissions.
- Demonstrate thought leadership in climate change management practices risks and governance as relating to energy and GHG emissions.
- Keeps abreast of the latest developments innovations and technologies with an emphasis on energy aspects by means of liaising with other mining houses and research organisations and by representing the Company at industry level.
- Comply with applicable legal requirements and frameworks (ICMM WGC UNGC etc.) to which the Group subscribes that relate to GHG emissions management.
- Assess plan and source alternative energy supply in support of the energy and carbon objectives. Manage negotiate and improve the terms of local energy and electricity supply (both private and utility).
- Provide representation on relevant external industry forums/ bodies including but not limited to the ICMM Energy Intensive User Group Minerals Council etc.
- Scan pursue and utilise supportive climate change energy and decarbonisation technologies and innovations including storage and hydrogen.
- Build and maintain relationships with key energy and decarbonisation stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and crossfunctionally (including Csuite Segment EXCOs Board relevant senior Government officials industry peers etc.).
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering.
- Postgraduate Diploma / Honours Degree / Professional Qualification Degree in Engineering and/or MBA is advantages.
- 10 years’ experience in a related role of which 5 years should have been at a management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
- Cross –functional inclusive and Conceptual /strategic thinking
- Crossfunctional skills (Legal accounting environmental engineering corporate finance etc.) and Negotiation Skills
- Professional communication skills (to Board or Ministerial level) and Project management skills.
