Duties
- Regular database maintenance
- Ensure optimal database configuration
- Ensure healthness of database indexes
- Ensure optimal query execution plans (baselining if necessary)
- Ensure capacity (CPU/space etc.)
- Ensure low impact of jobs (backups etc.) coordinate with provider
- Continously monitor databases mainly production (but all other stages as well)
- Analyze for anomalies/trends
- Detect inefficient queries
- Provide feedback to teams with findings
- Detect problems on the platform level
- Perform database lifecycle related tasks like:
- Comissioning of new databases/schema for the teams
- Decomissioning and archiving of databases/schema
- Coordinate and and doing of datasbase patching/upgrading
- Deep analysis of databases after load tests
- Create performance reports
- If required fix findings (together with teams)
- Consult teams in database related topics (design/optimization/organization of database tables etc.)
- Review database scripts at the end of a release
- Enable DevOps model for databases for teams
- Incident management
- Take actions to resolve incidents (together with provider if needed)
- Indentify root causes
- Provide measurements to mitigate same incidents
Qualifications :
Core Skills:
- Database Technologies: PostgreSQL Oracle MongoDB
- Performance Tuning: Query optimization indexing
- Security: Encryption user role management access control
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Database monitoring tools error logs diagnostic tools
- High Availability & Replication: Masterslave replication clustering
- Scripting & Automation
- Cloud Databases (would be preferable): AWS RDS
- Maintenance: Fragmentation Query Plan Management Backup & Recovery
Tools & Technologies:
- DBMS: Oracle PostgreSQL MongoDB (preferable)
- Tools: at least some of them: SQL Developer pgAdmin Toad for Oracle DataGrip
- Backup Solutions: no specific requirenments
- Monitoring: CloudControl NewRelic AWS CloudWatch
- Cloud Platforms: AWS (RDS)
