Job Description

Project Description

The Government of Solomon Islands has requested assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen senior secondary education to build climate and disaster resilience. This project will achieve this by reforming the curriculum in years 10 12 to make it more practical and equip students with the necessary foundational skills for continuous learning and future employment focusing on skills and jobs that foster resilience. The Project will update and construct new climateresilient facilities at 10 schools and strengthen management. It will also address barriers and challenges girls face piloting innovative gendertransformative activities and implementing a leadership and management program for aspiring female educators. The project is aligned with the following impact: all Solomon Islanders will develop as individuals and possess the knowledge skills and attitudes needed to earn a living and to live in harmony with others and their environment. The project will improve the quality relevance and genderresponsiveness of senior secondary education for a climateresilient economy.

Position Description

EDC is seeking a Climate Change and Disaster Resilience Curriculum Specialist to Assess gaps in climate resilience education in syllabi and support the integration of climate adaptation sustainability and disaster resilience into national curricula including Agriculture and Living Sustainably. The Climate Change and Disaster Resilience Curriculum Specialists key tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Provide training and technical support to curriculum developers ensuring effective integration of climate and disaster resilience concepts into curriculum resources.
  • Support policy implementation collect data monitor progress and contribute to reporting on climate education reforms in alignment with national and international frameworks.
  • Collaborate with government agencies education stakeholders and civil society organizations engage in policy discussions and ensure timely reporting on curriculum development and implementation.

This position is contingent upon award by the donor.

Candidates shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:


Qualifications :

Education:

Advanced degree in climate change disaster risk reduction environmental sustainability or a related field.

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 8 years of general experience in climate change education disaster risk reduction and environmental sustainability.
  • Experience working within the national curriculum development and teacher training sector
  • Knowledge of national policies and frameworks on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in education

Language:

Professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English.
