District Audiovisual & Production Technician

Position Summary

The District Audiovisual & Production (AVP) Technician performs skilled technical duties in support of theatre operations stage productions meetings and events throughout the District that require audiovisual equipment (such as assemblies student performances graduation ceremonies board meetings etc.). The AVP Technician ensures the safe operation and maintenance of theatre sound lighting rigging and related equipment and other audiovisual systems used in support of stage productions meetings assemblies and other events. This position directly reports to the Information and Technology Director and must work collaboratively with event leads such as the theatre manager building principals teachers etc. To fulfil this position the AVP Technician must assist with a variety of clerical office duties related to events and/or theatre operations.

Essential Functions

• Set up operate and strike audio systems to include placing speakers and microphones running cables and wires mixing sound for desired results operating special effects equipment and recording events as directed;
• Set up risers music stands chairs and other equipment related to performances and rehearsals;
• Stage management at events includes rearranging stage setups during concerts cueing artists dimming lights and other duties;
• Stage strikes include returning all stages to setups needed for rehearsals for the next performance;
• Perform a variety of technical tasks involved in the setting operating striking and maintaining systems used to support musical and drama performances rehearsals recitals and other events like presentations assemblies and recorded meetings;
• Work with Theatre Technician Drama Music and other certificated staff to support and coordinate student technicians;
• Operate lighting sound video and stage equipment during events rehearsals and performances following audio or visual cues;
• Perform preventive maintenance on special event and AV equipment such as amplifiers microphones speakers lights and projectors;
• Diagnose malfunctions repair audiovisual equipment replace serviceable parts as needed or notify supervisor of need for repair as needed;
• Confer with other staff members and with clients to ensure the correct provision of technical services for events;
• Maintain inventories of equipment and parts inform supervisor of equipment and supply needs assist in ordering or take other actions as directed.
• Program and maintain computerized and digital lighting and sound equipment.
• Utilize proper safety practices and procedures
• Serve as a technical representative for groups using the facilities; coordinate with other organizations using the facility to determine technical requirements
• Serve as a resource for lighting sound and other technical needs Districtwide;
• Set up and operate presentation software such as PowerPoint and KeyNote.
• Select proper microphones speakers mixing and amplifying equipment; mix and adjust sound reinforcement equipment during events;
• Work collaboratively with members of the production team event personnel artists and presenters;
• Carpentry skill and experience with power equipment;
• Certificate for use of mechanical lift required within 6 months; and
• Other related duties as assigned.

Work hours: This position averages four hours per day but the hours are irregular due to concert and event schedules. Weekend and evening work will be required. As such the AVP Technician must be available evenings and weekends to run audio and visual equipment in school productions music events board meetings and other intermittent assignments as needed.

Education and/or Experience

• Associates Degree and 13 years technical experience in theatre music and/or event production or closely related field.
• Experience with installation of audio/visual and computer equipment in networked PC/MacOS environments.

• Technical knowledge of theatre and presentation systems.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and tasks.
• Camera operation experience
• Live sound engineering experience

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operation and maintenance

instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports log inventory respond to emails in an efficient manager and project management. Ability to respond to common requests or complaints from the public or members of the school community.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Other Skills and Abilities

• Work generally requires experience in a technical theatre or musical performance recording studio or similar setting to become familiar with the maintenance and operation of a variety of equipment used in special events production.
• Evaluate equipment needs and notify supervisor of need to repair or replace equipment.
• Troubleshoot theater equipment and computer problems.
• Utilize standard office equipment including computers and related software applications.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and tasks.
• Demonstrated sense of leadership and teamwork.
