POSITION TITLE: Diagnostician Special Education
FLSA: Exempt Professional
QUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO:Superintendent/Director of Special Education Services
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receive student referrals and implement the appraisal process
- Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations
- Collect and organize relevant assessment data from students cumulative folder classroom teacher(s) principal support staff parents and outside resource people
- Conduct observation and personal interviews as needed
- Conduct or participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures
- Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP
- Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data
- Consult parents teachers administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students
- Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and make changes based on findings
- Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rules and local board policy in the areas of assessment placement and planning for special education services
- Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment
- Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required including case records test results statistical data and test inventories
- Participate in State Performance Plan audits
- Adhere to State compliance in regards to documentation and timelines
- Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with district personnel
- Effectively communicate with colleagues students parents and outside resource people
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Adhere to the districts safety policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)
- Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
- Conduct home visits as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the administration.
