Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Diagnostician Special Education

FLSA: Exempt Professional

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Educational Assessment preferred.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures education of special education students human development and learning theories
  • Vaid Texas Certification and/or License.
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate.
  • Experience in the public school setting preferred.

  • Bilingual candidate preferred

REPORTS TO:Superintendent/Director of Special Education Services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Receive student referrals and implement the appraisal process
  2. Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations
  3. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from students cumulative folder classroom teacher(s) principal support staff parents and outside resource people
  4. Conduct observation and personal interviews as needed
  5. Conduct or participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures
  6. Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP
  7. Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data
  8. Consult parents teachers administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students
  9. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents
  10. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and make changes based on findings
  11. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required
  12. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rules and local board policy in the areas of assessment placement and planning for special education services
  13. Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment
  14. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required including case records test results statistical data and test inventories
  15. Participate in State Performance Plan audits
  16. Adhere to State compliance in regards to documentation and timelines
  17. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment
  18. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with district personnel
  19. Effectively communicate with colleagues students parents and outside resource people

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  2. Adhere to the districts safety policies and procedures
  3. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  4. Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)
  5. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  6. Conduct home visits as needed.
  7. Other duties as assigned by the administration.
