DEFINITION
Under direction of the Coordinator Information Technology supports users in the operation of districtowned technology products in a network environment; responds to help desk inquiries; prepares and delivers oneonone and group training; troubleshoots hardware and software problems; installs software and hardware products and upgrades; provides onsite and telephone support for user questions. Incumbents provide user support and training to district employees.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Develops and updates a help desk trouble shooting guide and documentation for users. Researches and solves user problems.
Assists in the maintenance of the District Internet Web pages. Installs and supports the districts standard hardware and software products.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of Ethernet local and wide area networks. Develops and documents procedures for LAN implementation maintenance and use. Develops and presents training materials for LAN products.
Assists the Network Specialist in resolving problems.
Provides telephone (help desk) and onsite support for user hardware software and networking issues.
Maintains help desk work order forms for accurate tracking of incidents.
Performs various hardware installations as needed.
Prepares school floor plans from draft drawings for fiber optic and network wire drop locations.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with endusers vendors administrators coworkers parents and the general public.
Performs related duties as assigned. Accurately documents all the above.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Knowledge of
1. Operating systems (Win95 WinNT Mac DOS Win3. 1 UNIX).
2. Network topologies and protocols (TCP/IP etc.).
3. Principles and concepts of hardware and software installation.
4. Concepts of modern office practices procedures and equipment.
5. Copyright laws privacy laws and district policies related to network/computer access.
6. Correct English usage spelling grammar and punctuation
Skills:
1. Skills and ability to troubleshoot many situations logically.
2. Interpersonal skills including professionalism tact courtesy and patience.
3. Telephone etiquette when answering incoming problem calls.
4. Operation installation and configuration of computers peripherals and software applications in a standalone and multiuser environment.

Training and Experience:
Training and experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the minimum qualifications detailed above. Typical qualifying experience would include; classroom training in a technologyrelated major study; handson computer peripheral and network component use for software installation; and work experience acting as a resource for problem identification and resolution concerning microcomputer equipment and applications and configuring and installing microcomputer equipment applications and peripherals in a LAN/WAN network environment. Experience with help desk applications preferred.
Working Conditions:
Office environment and schools. Shift may vary to allow computer configurations when users are not on the system. Some noise and temperature variations from computer equipment and adjacent offices. Physical ability to bend kneel stoop crawl stretch lift and carry a variety of equipment and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
