Job Description

FullTime and Permanent; 7.5 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade I

The Senior Coordinator of Innovation Community Engagement and Outreach will play a vital role in building and maintaining relationships between Norfolk Public Schools and the broader community. This position will focus on fostering partnerships coordinating outreach efforts organizing community engagement events and supporting student learning and wellbeing through collaboration with stakeholders.

A key focus of this role is ensuring that outreach efforts and programs are inclusive culturally responsive and accessible to all students and families. By integrating the responsibilities of community engagement and the Equity and Excellence Learning Centers (EELCs) this position will help create opportunities that honor and reflect the diverse backgrounds experiences and needs of the school community. The Senior Coordinator of Innovation Community Engagement and Outreach will provide direct supervision and alignment with the EELCs and Family Engagement Specialists to ensure datadriven instructional supports are in place for families. This role will focus on removing barriers to engagement promoting equitable access to resources and utilizing data to support childrens academic success. This also includes outreach strategies expanding access to resources.

Additionally the Senior Coordinator will provide leadership in support schools in developing PTA organizations and cultivating partnerships while fostering a welcoming environment where all students and families feel valued supported engaged and accountable for their educational progress.

SUPERVISION

The Senior Coordinator of Multimedia Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation duties are

performed under the direction of the Chief Strategy Innovation and Community Engagement Officer. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications and Community Engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed by each position in the class).

Leadership and Supervision:

Supervise and provide strategic direction to EELC Specialist and Family Engagement staff ensuring effective alignment with divisionwide initiatives.

Coach and mentor staff fostering professional growth and ensuring highquality engagement with students families and the community.

Lead professional development efforts focused on community engagement equity and cultural responsiveness for school staff and community partners.

Support schools and departments in the design and implementation of innovative community engagement strategies.

Ensure continuous improvement through ongoing data review program evaluation and the implementation of best practices in community outreach and engagement.

Outreach and Relationship Building:

Identify and engage with key community organizations businesses and leaders to establish strong partnerships.

Develop and execute outreach strategies to inform the community about school initiatives events and important updates.

Conduct regular meetings with community partners to discuss needs opportunities and collaborative projects (i.e. Community Engagement Council).

Act as an ambassador for the school district building relationships that advance the mission and outcomes of Norfolk Public Schools.

Provide professional development or training opportunities as necessary

Event Planning and Coordination:

Organize and manage community events such as family nights career fairs health fairs and backtoschool rallies.

Oversee logistics marketing and volunteer recruitment for schoolbased and districtwide events.

Develop engaging programming that aligns with school goals and community interests.

Communication and Engagement:

Create and distribute newsletters social media updates and website content to keep the community informed and consistently focus on strengthening relationships.

Establish and facilitate twoway communication channels for gathering feedback and addressing community concerns.

Implement strategies to promote a positive school image and deepen community engagement.

Volunteer Recruitment and Management:

Recruit and manage volunteers for various school activities including tutoring mentoring and chaperoning.

Develop volunteer training programs to ensure effective support for students and schools.

Program Development and Oversight:

Assist in planning and successfully implementing EELC afterschool enrichment programs.

Provide leadership support and supervision for afterschool instructional staff and service providers.

Plan and implement extracurricular activities for afterschool programs that promote academic success and socialemotional development.

Ensure student safety and establish clear policies for program participation.

Support student recruitment efforts for EELC afterschool enrichment programs.

Collaborate with Norfolk Public Schools departments and external agencies to provide comprehensive studentcentered support. This includes overseeing and facilitating volunteer initiatives strengthening community partnerships managing the Raptor visitor system and leading PTA engagement efforts to enhance student success and wellbeing.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Track and analyze community engagement and program metrics to assess effectiveness.

Prepare reports for school leadership highlighting key community engagement achievements and areas for improvement.

Maintain accurate records of student participation program impact and volunteer engagement.

Supports the entire communications team with other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Project management experience including planning and executing community engagement initiatives.

Knowledge of the Norfolk community landscape and key issues impacting students.

Experience in event planning volunteer management and program development.

Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities.

Proficiency in data analysis reporting and program evaluation.

MINIMUM EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Masters degree in education administration or a related field. Experience working with diverse student populations in underserved communities.

LICENSE

Valid drivers license car insurance and reliable transportation.

Virginia teaching license with an Administration & Supervision endorsement preferred.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

Work requires normal physical effort associated with working in an office environment. Additional work environments include school settings board meetings and athletic events.

HAZARDS

Work involves exposure to normal everyday risks.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS

This position may require flexible or additional work hours including oncall duties responses and work during emergency situations including inclement weather active threat or other school closure. This work is subject to changing requirements priorities and interruptions. Resilience under pressure is essential. Work is performed in an office setting as well as throughout the school division and school community.
