This is a paid temporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire and applications will be considered as they are received.

CDOT offers between$29.51 $32.46/hourlyfor this temporary position. The majority of CDOTs temporary positions work 40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime.

Description of Job

About the Position:
This temporary Electronic Specialist II is located at our Colorado Springs location. This position will assist in the maintenance troubleshooting and repair for CDOTs traffic signals ramp meters and communication network throughout southeast Colorado.

Your duties and responsibilitieswill include but are not limited to the following:


What CDOT Provides:
  • Personal protective equipment such as uniforms boots hard hats gloves safety vest respirator and tools
  • CPR and firstaid training
  • Variety of career training opportunities
  • 40hour work weeks with opportunity for overtime during weather emergencies
  • 4day work schedule Monday Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5 PM
  • Opportunities to learn new equipment

Your Work Environment
  • Required to be on a rotating oncall schedule
  • Required to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays
  • Required to work on ladders and/or bucket trucks at heights from 1080 feet
  • Occasional instate/overnight travel
  • Frequent travel during workday for repair of equipment training and meetings in southeastern Colorado
  • Required to operate CDOT vehicles
  • Required to perform digging trenching lifting pulling carrying other physical activities and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Work around live electric gas water and other utility lines.
  • Exposure to fumes odors gases dusts etc. that may affect breathing eyes and skin
  • Exposure to High Voltage (anything over 600V) and electrical shock
  • Required to work in proximity to heavy traffic
  • Required to work in extreme temperatures hot and cold and weather conditions for long periods of time
  • Due to locations of some of the equipment must be physically able to work at 11000 feet in altitude.

Minimum Qualifications

(Equipment and devices should primarily be in one or more of the following areas: telecommunications video systems wireless networks fiber optics radios and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems.)

  • A combination of related education and / or relevant experience in electronics electrical engineering computer science information technology or closely related may be substituted for the required experience. Preferred Qualifications:Theexceptional applicantwill possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
  • Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the description of the job section.
  • Highest work/personal ethics and integrity.
  • Experience with power and hand tools locating equipment bucket truck and/or pole cat equipment operation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the theories principles and best practices of digital and analog electronic theory telecommunications and computer wireless networks.
  • Knowledge and experience in installing repairing replacing and troubleshooting a wide variety of electronic systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of pointtopoint pointtomultipoint microwave and other wireless communications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fiber optic handling terminating and splicing.
  • Knowledge and understandingof fiber optic transceivers and/or wireless transmitters and repeaters.
  • Knowledge and understanding of electronics and control programming.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ITS devices (e.g. variable message signs close circuit TV radar and/or weather stations).
  • Knowledge of DTE and DCE devices as well as Telnet CMD Run and HyperTerminal applications.
  • Familiarity with traffic signal control systems (e.g. Qfree and Kinetics).
  • Familiarity with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and work zone safety.
  • Ability to interpret and apply electronic schematics.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments priorities and projects in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Strong time and project management skills including prioritization and project switching ability.
  • Excellent reasoning investigative analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy.
  • Passion for safety.
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations.
  • Fluency in MS Word MS Excel Gmail Qfree and Kinetics SAP and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
Conditions of Employment
  • A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.
  • If you have a nonColorado Drivers License you must be eligible to drive in Colorado at time of hire.

  • Oncall work (rotating basis as well as subject to call)
  • Shift work
  • Essential Services Designation Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health safety and welfare.
  • May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes driving time in normal weather conditions to be able to respond in a timely manner after being notified to report to work. Knowledge of an emergency or hazardous condition may be considered to be notification to report to workstation.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.
  • Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency.
