Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Assist students in the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual physical emotional and psychological growth and maturation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of: Specific curriculum content for subject area. Knowledge of State Standards in Second Language. Skilled in: lesson plan development implementation of learning activities behavior management assessment and teaching to individual student skill levels. Ability to: teach any level of high school Spanish including AP Spanish; Candidates must be dedicated to having high expectations for all students and skilled in supporting the needs of all learners; Candidates must be motivated to teach using 21st century teaching practices; Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing and build and maintain positive relationships with students parents and staff. And candidates must desire working on a team of teachers to continually improve and innovate instruction. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents.
Experience: Experience in smaller learning communities small schools CES principles and experience working with native speakers and their families is desired. A masters degree in Spanish is desired. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. Education: Completion of a higher education bachelors degree or masters degree in education/ teaching. Current Oregon teaching license valid for grades 912 with a Spanish Endorsement.
Certification Required: A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper endorsements for subjects and grade level assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the interests needs and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment materials and facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda correspondence lessons plans reports and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in onetoone and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers supervisor(s) staff students parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

Works in a school environment. Able to use a telephone operate a computer and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.
CLASSIFICATION:
Full time Licensed Contract forNewberg High School.
CALENDAR/BENEFITS:8 hours per day; 190 day contract; Position includes 2 days forNew Teacher InService prior to start date.
Salary range TBD once negotiations forare complete(Current range of theLicensed Salary Schedule $48741 $100225). Newberg School District pays 6% PERS contribution provides a generous insurance cap longterm disability and life insurance.
