You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Outside Plant Technician is responsible for the installation maintenance and repair of fiber optic lines and other outside plant infrastructure connecting a fibertothehome network to residences and businesses. This typically includes working with fiber optic cables poles and other infrastructure that supports telecom services. The role of an outside plant technician is essential in ensuring the reliability and functionality of telecommunications networks directly impacting service for customers.

Drop Installation and Setup:
Install and maintain outside plant infrastructure such as fiber optics cables and telecommunications equipment as needed.
Climb utility poles using a ladder and/or gaffs attach aerial drop cables and hardware and bury conduit and cables underground.
Install equipment on the customers premises in a responsible and professional manner.
Ensure the proper placement and connections of wiring to meet technical standards.
Maintenance and Repair:
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the integrity of cables and equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair any damage or faults to outside plant systems.
Respond to emergency repair calls sometimes during inclement weather and after hours. Often requires quick response times to restore services.
Network Testing and Documentation:
Conduct tests on installed cables and systems to ensure quality and functionality by utilizing testing equipment power meters and other devices.
Document installation and maintenance activities including tracking materials inventory and asbuilt drawings.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for all installation and maintenance activities.
Work with personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures for work near highvoltage systems or working from heights.
Adhere to OSHA requirements including city and county regulations regarding utility installation and maintenance.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work closely with other technicians operations coordinator and engineers to coordinate installations upgrades and repairs.
Coordinate with local municipalities or private property owners when necessary for permissions or access to install or repair systems.
Customer Service and Troubleshooting:
Provide technical support to customers when issues arise with the outside plant infrastructure.
Ensure that service outages are quickly resolved and customers are satisfied with the repair or installation services.

Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of fiber optics and outside plant.
Tools and Equipment: Knowledge of specialized tools such as splicing equipment and fiber testing equipment Proficient in operating trenching and vibratory plow equipment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors lift heavy materials up to 100lbs work at heights (such as climbing poles and bucket trucks) and endure varying weather conditions. Experience in both manual digging with hand tools and operation of heavy construction equipment.
ProblemSolving skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues in a variety of field conditions.
Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with clients coworkers and contractors.
Certification and Training: Willingness to complete certifications such as CPR OSHA 30 (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification or equivalent as may be required.
The job operates in a professional office environment and in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This position may be exposed to external weather conditions including rain sleet snow etc. as well as
a varying degree of cold and hot temperatures.
This position requires the ability to participate in outside plant maintenance to include lifting materials climbing ladders accessing small spaces splicing fiber and other tasks in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.
This is a fulltime position and typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Occasional travel throughout the Beacon and CCEC service territories. Some travel throughout Oregon and to other
states for conferences and other events.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in telecommunications or technical fieldwork preferred but not required.
Reliable transportation for getting to work.
Must meet the requirements of preemployment drug screening and comply with companys drug and alcohol policy while employed.
