RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Water Training Facilities Administration:
- Ensure the safety security hygiene and emotional wellbeing of participants adhering to standards that reflect the care and responsibility expected of a diligent parent.
- Lead tours and lectures in a professional and timely manner ensuring guests receive exceptional service that aligns with the Mission Vision and Spirit of the Rocket Center.
- Comply with industry standards for the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Maintain the availability and proper functionality of all safety equipment required for water training activities.
- Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the Water Training Facility and surrounding areas.
- Meet or exceed expectations from the Water Training Manager for timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Underwater Astronaut Trainer:
- Maintain the integrity of the water tank and related equipment in accordance with industry standards.
- Ensure proper water quality including chemistry clarity and temperature meeting or exceeding established guidelines.
- Assist divers with equipment preparation donning doffing and rinsing to ensure safety and optimal equipment operation.
- Conduct underwater training tours demonstrations and simulations in a professional timely and educational manner ensuring a highquality experience for guests and trainees that reflects the Rocket Centers values.
- Instruct SCUBA courses for Advanced Academy trainees ensuring a safe educational and enriching experience.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate documentation for the Water Training Facilities including:
- SCUBA classes
- Simulation test demos
- Air quality logs
- Health department records
- Pump room logs
- Water chemistry logs
- Compressor and equipment maintenance logs
- Air fill logs and inventory
- Perform regular inspections of the UAT system chlorination heating circulation and air compressor systems to ensure optimal operation and safety.
- Report malfunctions or issues with mechanical electrical or other equipment promptly for repair.
- Ensure the Underwater Training Facility is fully stocked with necessary supplies and materials to support daily operations.
- Required Certifications
This position requires the following certifications:
- Open Water SCUBA Certification
- NAUI SCUBA Rescue and Training Assistant Certification
- SCUBA instructor certification is REQUIRED.
- Current CPR Certification (Professional)
- First Aid Certification
- Pool care and maintenance certification
- Lifeguard certification
- Preferred Certifications:
The following certifications are preferred in addition to the above:
- NAUI Master SCUBA Diver certification
- Active NAUI or nationally recognized SCUBA instructor or assistant instructor certification
- Certified Pool and Spa Operator
- SCUBA gear maintenance and repair certification
- Lifeguard instructor certification
- Instructor certifications in CPR First Aid and Swimming

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of formal education beyond high school.
- Basic knowledge of pool systems and engineering design is beneficial.
Required Experience
- 3 to 6 months of experience as a lifeguard with some supervisory experience preferred (06 months) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
This position requires walking and climbing stairs to access various departments and locations on USSRC grounds and to inspect UAT equipment and facilities. The role also requires the ability to perform open water SCUBA and swimming activities including SCUBA rescue. Candidates must be able to push carry and lift equipment up to 100 lbs and handle 540 lb. drums of acid and caustic chemicals as well as power and hand tools and plumbing equipment. Bending kneeling and reaching to store or retrieve supplies and equipment are also essential functions of the position. Additionally the candidate must possess sight feeling talking and hearing abilities to effectively supervise instruct and assist employees and trainees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
The position is primarily performed in a climatecontrolled building but may also require occasional outdoor work in fair weather conditions at the Aviation Challenge Lake. The role involves exposure to the inherent hazards of the profession and requires frequent interaction with employees trainees and small children. Furthermore the position mandates wearing a wet suit with SCUBA equipment and performing SCUBA dives with trainees.
