The Oregon Layton Aging & Alzheimers Disease Center (OADC) closely integrates its clinical mission with its designation as an NIAfunded Alzheimers Disease Research Center. The Memory Assessment and Aging & Alzheimers clinics are conducted at the OHSU CHH1 clinic staffed by specialtytrained cognitive or geriatric neurologists a geriatric psychiatrist a geriatric nurse practitioner two nurse specialists a social worker and two neuropsychologists. Geriatric neurology and psychiatry fellows are also typically a part of the overall clinical team. This highly experienced specialty team is widely sought in our region for consultation (about 40% of cases come from outside the Portland metropolitan area) for patients with adult onset cognitive disorders (e.g. TBI chemobrain genetic disorders) and the dementias. Many families are seeking advice for advanced management or clinical trial participation. Because of the tremendous and growing demand for assessment and consultation services appointments are by referral from neurologists and related specialists. All new patients seen at the OADC clinics are presented at a weekly team meeting where a case review is conducted and standardized diagnoses are assigned; this is part of the OADC research center process.
The Advanced Practice Provider is a faculty member credentialed and privileged to serve as a Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner.
The position involves a mix of clinical responsibilities that include seeing patients in ambulatory clinics (8 sessions/week).
