Job Duties
Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Emergency Response Technician (ERT)/Crisis Prevention Officer (CPO) who will maintain safety and milieu management of resident population and staff at Western State Hospital. Maintain constant and positive interaction with patients on the unit. Ensure that unit safety is maintained on each unit on each shift and provide therapeutic and physical interventions when needed while also assisting with monitoring and engagement activities with patients. Respond to emergency codes on the units. Ultimate control over the safety of patients on designed unit through efficient and compliant use of TO and approved deescalation techniques. Assignment will be to one specific unit/units with occasional rotations to other units as needed. Responsible for leading the safety culture and initiatives on the unit. This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency pandemic or facility need. All WSH positions are required to work different shifts to include nights weekends and holidays and/or overtime as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
valid Virginia Drivers License with acceptable driving record
experience in law enforcement corrections psychology or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional Considerations
Associates degree in human services
prior experience working in a field such as military police mental health or related field.
experience in preparing reports and conduct investigations.
experience in handling difficult individuals and be able to follow appropriate approved procedures to physically control confine and restrain in difficult situations
