POSITION: K5 Mathematics Specialist (12 months)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Elementary Education
SALARY GRADE: Salary commensurate with degree certification and experience
SCOPE OF WORK
A K5 Mathematics Specialist is a career status teaching professional who has excellent teaching and leadership skills. They draw upon their teaching experience to serve as an expert resource for all mathematics teachers. The K5 mathematics specialist has a command for the mathematics content area.
A K5 Mathematics Specialist must be dedicated to the improvement of the teaching profession and able to provide constructive feedback and helpful solutions to other teachers without alienating or discouraging them. They should possess good observational and analytical skills and be able to offer innovative creative solutions in difficult situations .The specialist organizes integrates and leads the elementary math programs as well as assists teachers in the implementation of quality math instruction for all students. The content specialist will work directly with other content specialists and district leadership to plan professional development.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Language Skills Ability to read analyze and interpret periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
Computer Skills Familiarity of basic computer operation and software. Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.
Other Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision color vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files paper school supplies books etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
