Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the efficient operation of the custodial department to project a positive image of the Northwest RI School District.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

Twice Daily (AM & PM)

  1. Clean restrooms
    1. Johnny mop toilets (when needed)
    2. Clean sinks

After Breakfast

  1. Sanitize all fixtures

Afternoon

  1. Check all paper products
  1. Remove graffiti
  2. Empty trash
  3. Wet mop any liquids

Daily

  1. Cafeteria duties (clean brutes and tilt carts)
  2. Sweep floor thoroughly
  3. Mop floor thoroughly
  4. Empty all trash and take to dumpster
  5. Any brutes in the halls for breakfast need to be checked for cleaning
  6. Run machine over any area that milk was spilled
  7. Clean lobby windows
  8. Blow any leaves from entry ways
  9. Police grounds
  1. Report any maintenance issues
  2. When supplies arrive stock shelves and put away
  3. Clean entry way door windows
  4. Empty trash in teachers lounge
  5. Check and replace lights in all exit signs and classrooms. Check list

Weekly

  1. Check inventory of chemicals paper products or supplies and place order to warehouse.
  1. Make sure laundry is in proper area for pick up on scheduled day
  2. Clean locker tops
  3. Clean entry doors and walls
  4. Playground checklist for schools required (Mondays) if district is closed the next day back insession.
  1. As playground is checked mulch needs to be raked into place under the swingsempty trash.

As Scheduled

  1. Buff hallways (only time halls do not get buffed is approved by immediate supervisor)
  2. Buff gymnasiums (days with no students)
  3. Buff cafeterias (day with no students)

Help principal when they request low maintenance work

Winter time: Shoveling and salting is the first priority. Students need to get to the bus safely.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. Preferred prior experience in a school setting

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  1. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
  2. Ability to solve conflicts maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers fractions decimals and percentages.
  2. Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items invoices bills purchase orders and other related items.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
  2. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  3. Ability to concentrate think read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent human relations skills
  1. Ability to work independently
  2. Demonstrate organizational skills
  3. Familiar with facility operations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee must regularly sit talk listen and respond. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision precise handeye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally the employee may lift up to 50 pounds such as to lift files papers and equipment. The foregoing is not an exclusive list and the employee may be required to exceed the minimum physical demand specifications should the safety and security of students and staff be compromised.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a moderate level with frequent interruptions. The employee continuously interacts with staff and the public.
