The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River
Public Schools
Title: NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor
Candidates must be retired U.S. Navy U.S. Marine Corps or U.S. Coast Guard W2O6
officers with a Bachelors degree and hold instructor certification from Naval Service
Training Command (NSTC).
Applicants without current NSTC certification may
apply; however permanent employment is contingent upon obtaining certification.
The Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of
the NJROTC program.
The SNSI reports administratively to the Director of Career and
Technical Education and operationally to the Principal for matters related to B.M.C.
Durfee High School and Fall River Public Schools.
Responsibilities include managing a variety of administrative and logistical functions preparing multiple reports maintaining
an extensive uniform inventory and coordinating drill and other student activities.
The instructor must be able to work effectively with teenagers and demonstrate a high level of
professionalism.
While military drill experience is beneficial it is not required.
WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF THE NJROTC SENIOR NAVAL SCIENCE
INSTRUCTOR
The SNSI shall carry out their duties in accordance with the current regulations
policies and procedures established by NSTC and the host school. Additionally the
SNSI reports to the NJROTC Area Manager for matters related to Navy administrative
and logistical support. Beyond the specific duties outlined below the SNSI may also
take on collateral responsibilities typically assigned to and rotated among faculty
members provided they do not interfere with the administration and operation of the
NJROTC program. The specific duties and responsibilities of the SNSI include:
Teaching the prescribed Naval Science 3 and Naval Science 4 curriculum.
Instructing military drill.
Counseling students in the NJROTC program.
Writing/updating lesson plans for the NJROTC curriculum.
Requisitioning all government furnished equipment (includes uniforms training
aids books drill rifles air rifles organizational equipment).
Surveying old and worn uniforms and other government property.
Performing simple preventive maintenance of training aids and devices.
Inventory control of all government furnished equipments/materials (including
annual walltowall inventory).
Ensuring proper physical security of all government furnished
equipment/materials.
Planning extracurricular activities for the NJROTC unit (including color/honor
guard ceremonies competitive meets field trips basic leadership training ship
cruises etc).
Preparing periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
Keeping current of new developments and organizations within the Navy.

Assessing unit progress to assure NJROTC program objectives are met.
Attending Navysponsored training to remain current on requirements of
program management.
Taking courses of instruction to improve teaching abilities.
Establishing rapport with school counselors and faculty members.
Making annual presentations of the NJROTC program to students at feeder
schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets into the program.
Maintaining financial accounts of operating budget.
Preparing financial vouchers to the Navy for reimbursement of expenditures to
the school made in support of the NJROTC program.
Establishing contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition and support of
the NJROTC program.
Salary and Terms of Employment:
Instructor salaries are determined in accordance with the DoD 7000.14R Financial
Management Regulation Volume 10 Chapter 21.
