Job Description
SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- PED and Board License to practice alternatives to these qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. SLPA and CFY applicants will be considered at a lower rate.
- Multilingual/Multicultural Trained Preferred
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
- Screening evaluation educational program and transition planning
- Monitor student progress and make informed timely educational decisions.
- Conduct speech language and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.
- Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation review and reevaluation process.
- Participate in the development of student IEPs.
- Participate in the student IEP and Evaluation Meetings
- Adhere to required program guidelines as defined by Christine Duncan as well as NM and IDEA Laws for Special Education.
- Consult with parents teachers administrators and others concerning the needs of
students and special services that are available.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications
and appropriate classroom strategies.
- Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
- Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
- Provide therapy followup and/or consultation based on student IEPs.
- Document therapy sessions including Medicaid billing (Enter therapy notes into MaxCapture on a weekly basis)
- Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroommanagement.
- Assist students in developing feelings of self worth and in making social adjustmentswhich permits them to cope with disabilities.
- Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports.
- Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of theneeds of exceptional children.
- Keep abreast of new information innovative ideas and techniques.
- See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping bending and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments
