Job Description

Augustana University is located in the growing and vibrant city of Sioux Falls South Dakota with a metro area of over 265000 people. Augustana University has for more than 150 years provided a strong studentcentric education based on its five core values: Christian faith liberal arts excellence community and service. Guided by Viking Bold: The Journey to 2030 the comprehensive strategic plan for Augustana University Augustana Athletics vision for the foreseeable future is twofold: 1. Build a nationally competitive mens hockey program that competes at the Division I level 2. Win the Division II Learfield Directors Cup celebrating broad based excellence.

With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena Augustana Athletics is launching the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and it will also be the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom in competition and in the community highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Directors Cup in 202122 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.

Football Offensive Coordinator

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Football Coach/Offensive Coordinator. The Assistant Coach provides administrative instructional academic and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Coach. This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the daytoday operations of the sport program as well as possible additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department.

Additionally the position is responsible to the Head Football Coach for assisting and directing the management of the football team. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to: coaching an offensive position coordinating the staff and players on the offense as well as recruitment of student athletes to the Football program.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Emphasis placed on daily activities that benefit the studentathlete experience.
  • Understanding that the studentathlete welfare is a top priority and should be a high priority in the daily interaction and job responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and manage specific aspects of offensive staff and positions as directedby the HeadCoach. Direct the planning organization and execution for on field coaching duties practice sessions and competition responsibilities of offensive staff with the Head Coach.
  • Direct game day organization and assignments.
  • Coordinate evaluation of opponents and the development of a game plan in accordance with assistants and positions.
  • Perform recruiting responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach to meet the objectives of the university and team including evaluation contact and establishing relationships with prospective studentathletes and coaches.
  • Responsible for supervision instruction and direction of studentathletes as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Assist Head Coach in all daytoday operations of the sport program.
  • Coordinate student athlete activities including but not limited to recruiting conditioning and academic services as needed and designated by the Head Coach.
  • Teach theclasses assigned by the department with professional integrity and university expectations.
  • Support abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university athletics department and Football program to ensure academic progress of the studentathlete as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Strength and Conditioning Equipment Student Development NCAA Compliance Media Relations etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Assist with administrative functions of the Football program as directed by the Head Coach. Perform duties with professional conduct being fiscally responsible and with a commitment to studentathlete wellbeing.
  • Abide by all written policies procedures and guidelines of Augustana University and the Department of Athletics. Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.
  • Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics university staff students and all constituencies and stakeholders.
  • Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Football Coaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous high school or college coaching experience.
  • Preferred masters degree.
  • Preferred previous Offensive Coordinator experience.
