Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Nurse Educator participate in all aspects of the hospital training program for the Arizona State Hospital including but not limited to new employee orientation review/refresher trainings handson competency demonstrations and unit/departmentbased training. The position will assist with conducting training needs assessments and confer with leadership concerning training needs and assist with the implementation of programs tailored to meet those needs by creating training curriculum designing training materials researching best practices and assist to establish/promote training strategies and standards throughout the hospital. The position will provide training specific to licensed nursing personnel and basic skills/didactic training to all levels of hospital staff both in the classroom and at the unit/department level. This position will write and submit final reports on results of training program and evaluates effectiveness of training programs provides orientation for and functions as a resource for student nurses utilizing the hospital as a clinical sight for psych nursing rotation. This position will work collaboratively with all departments to ensure consistency with information being provided and that the needs of the clinical departments are being met. Complete special assignments as assigned and serve on various hospital and nursing committees.

Job Duties:

Provide and/or participates in training specific to licensed nursing personnel and base skills/didactic; training to all levels of hospital staff both in classroom and at the unit/department level.
Research training content best practices existing training materials and audio visuals to ensure it meets then needs of all clinical departments and adjust training if/when needed based on identified training needs.
Participate in all aspects of training provided including but not limited to new employee orientation review/refresher training handson competency demonstrations and unit/departmentbased trainings.
Will work collaboratively with all departments to ensure consistency with information being provided and that the needs of the clinical departments are being met.
Assist in creating the yearly Education Days for all staff and coordinate the nursing booths and participate in providing the yearly educational competencies needed for each department.
Assist in writing and submitting final reports on results of training program and evaluates effectiveness of training programs provides orientation for and functions as a resource for student nurses utilizing the hospital as a clinical sight for psych nursing rotation.
Complete special assignments as assigned.
Serve on various hospital and nursing committees.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% 10%)

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

Instructional design concepts principles theories and application and adult learning
principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform.
Typical indemnity and safety topics such as sexual harassment diversity first aid
CPR and back safety.
Basic professional skills such as project management time management; planning
conflict resolution and active listening.
Distance learning techniques.
Proficiency in psychiatric nursing care mental health and guidance techniques.
Experience and/or training/education using a wide variety of Microsoft Office/Google
products.
Performance Management (PM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and
Lean methodologies.

Skill in:

Curriculum development
Utilizing adult education principles including different types of teaching/learning
modalities to meet the needs of a diverse audience of learners.
Analysis of training requirements content analysis and materials analysis.
Professional nursing techniques and patient care.

Ability to:

Evaluate and improve training programs.
Speak and write effectively.
Plan organize coordinate and execute training programs.
Write and present reports.
Utilize adult learning principles.
Work creatively and with little supervision to achieve goals and objectives.

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelors degree in a healthcare related field from an accredited college or university and 5 years of healthcare related work experience preferably in Behavioral Health.
Experience in working with regulatory agency rules/regulations/standards implementation of educational programs and training.

PreEmployment Requirements:

Must possess a valid and current RN license to practice in Arizona.
Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification.
A State Hospital employee must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issues pursuant to A.R.S.411758.07 or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment.
