Job Description

General Summary of the Position

The Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Music Teacher provides instruction in rhythm pitch musical notation and musical expression using the Orff Method. This grantfunded position is employed by the Catholic Schools Office reports directly to the Associate Superintendent and takes local direction from the Principals of four designated Catholic school campuses. The teacher will utilize Orff instrumentation and will receive training in the Orff method if needed. Instruction will be delivered at one school site per day with no travel between sites during the school day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the Catholic schools served.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies training sessions and reflection activities as directed.
  • Plan and deliver instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum and submit plans according to the school and diocesan policies.
  • Provide appropriate materials resources and activities to actively engage students in music learning
  • Use Orff method to provide students with a comprehensive and engaging music education experience.
  • Provide instruction to engage students in active musicmaking helping them to develop a deep understanding of rhythm pitch and musical notation.
  • Maintain current and accurate records according to school policies.
  • Manage classroom behavior with positive consistent discipline aligned with school expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding academic progress behavior and safety as needed
  • Abide by all policies as outlined in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook of Policies and Procedures for Elementary and Secondary Schools; TCCB ED Guide to Quality and Effectiveness
  • Other duties as assigned by principal

Position Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of ORFF instructional methods and strategies; ORFF certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development learning and behavior
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work collaboratively with school administrators faculty parents and students.
  • Able to work selfdirect prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in use of educational technology.
  • Strong organizational critical thinking and conflict management skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Music Education or related field from an accredited American university required
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED.
  • Must meet ongoing staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration.
  • Must complete Religion Certification per the guidelines of the Catholic Schools Office and TCCB ED if applicable.

Special Requirements:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred.
  • Willing and open to understanding Catholic teachings required.

Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:

Position requires standing for extended periods of time for delivery of instruction.
