Wellcome Collection is a free museum exploring health and human experience where you can enjoy exhibitions museum and library collections public events and a vibrant shop and caf. We also publish books and online stories.

Wellcome Collection is part of Wellcome Trust a global charitable foundation that supports science to build a healthier future for everyone. Wellcome Trust plans to spend 16bn over the next ten years funding new discoveries in life health and wellbeing and taking on three global health challenges: mental health infectious disease and climate and health.

This is a great time to join Wellcome Collection as we embark on an exciting period of development having recently launched our new tenyear strategy. As part of this we are starting a major initiative to modernise the systems and processes used to manage Wellcome Collections diverse and extensive archive library and museum collections.

We are looking for a Metadata Analyst to join our team on a fulltime basis for a fixed term of 18 months.

Where in Wellcome will I be working

You will be working as part of the Collections Information team which is part of the Collections and Digital department at Wellcome Collection reporting to the Collections Information Lead (Inventory).

You will be working closely with colleagues across the Collections & Digital department as well as colleagues within Wellcomes Digital & Technology team.

What will I be doing

As the Metadata Analyst responsible for data migration from existing systems to the new library and collection management systems procured.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Work in partnership with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including systems suppliers.

  • Ensure that all collections data held in Wellcome Collections current library and collections management system(s) is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for migration into successor application(s).

  • Design implement test and document data migration pathways and optimise collections management workflows and reporting taking full advantage of the opportunities presented by the new systems infrastructure.

  • Provide a high level of expert data skill to support the ongoing development of Wellcomes collections management infrastructure and to support further systems integration.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation collaborating across departments.

Is this job for me

You are someone who enjoys working with data and has excellent collections data analysis and data transformation skills using spreadsheets and databases.

You have a strong ethos of working in partnership and collaboration with your teammates and colleagues with proven relationship management skills and the ability to influence advise and support a wide range of stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of data cleansing conversion and migration projects.

  • Experience of undertaking system administrative tasks such as running scripts configuring load tables constructing SQL queries data export and import and making global changes to records in a library or collections management system.

  • Experience of collections management system configuration and workflow development.

  • Solid understanding and experience of library cataloguing systems (we are currently moving away from Sierra) alongside archive and/or museum cataloguing systems and relevant metadata and descriptive standards e.g. RDA AACR2 MARC21 ISAD(G) Spectrum.

  • An ability to work under pressure to achieve targets and to manage competing requirements of multiple stakeholders managing expectations and prioritising appropriately.

  • A clear focus on solutions and outcomes with a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving.
