Robert Service School is a K12 school with approximately 200 students. We have a highly dedicated and diverse staff led by the RSS Principal and the Trondk Hwchin Education Manager and supported by an engaged community. Situated in Dawson City Yukon on Trondk Hwchin Territory those of us who call it home live according to principles that are referred to as Trhude living or going through the world in a good way. Section 17.7 of the Trondk Hwchin SelfGovernment Agreement commits Trondk Hwchin and the Government of Yukon to share responsibility for lifelong learning on Trondk Hwchin Traditional Territory. The administration design and delivery of education is cogoverned and emphasizes an integrated education system built on a foundation of Dnezhu and local ways of knowing being and doing. We follow the lead of our learners and respond by providing opportunities that can meet their needs and that allow them to discover their purpose.

Assignment: TEACHER Music Elementary Literacy Support and other courses to be determined

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education;
  • A postsecondary specialization in music second curriculum area would be an asset;
  • Experience teaching music at a range of grade levels;
  • Experience in adapting curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles;
  • Experience implementing the requirements of an Individualized Education Plan Student Learning Plan and a Safety Plan;
  • Recent experience with emergent literacy curriculum would be an asset;
  • Experience working in a Yukon First Nations setting and in teaching First Nations students would be an asset;
  • Experience in selfregulation and/or restorative practices would be considered an asset

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population;
  • Familiarity with Trondk Hwchin culture and in teaching First Nations students;
  • Willingness to work with Trondek Hwechin knowledge holders to deliver locally relevant content;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate experiential learning and cultural practices into curriculum;
  • Willingness and ability work as a member of a team to promote support and work collaboratively with all staff members on multiple school goals and initiatives such the Neurosequential model and Restorative Practices;
  • Practical applications of behaviour management classroom management planning and organizational skills;
  • Awareness of the unique challenges of northern education;
  • Commitment to live work and participate as a member of a vibrant rural community.
