Job Description

POSITION: Special Education Teacher RISE Program


The Gardner High School RISE Programs is a substantially separate program focused on the needs of students with disabilities relevant to significant cognitive deficits coupled with social and adaptive needs as determined by assessment results. The program addresses the whole child by moving to enhance life functioning skills and offering the least restrictive environment for learning. Speech/language Occupational and Physical Therapist personnel provide individual services as needed. The RISE Program offers a flexible learning environment to enhance individual skills while staying connected to traditional general education classes and remaining an intregal part of the Gardner High School Community.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Massachusetts License for Teacher of Students with ModerateDisabilities or Severe Disabilities
  2. Minimum Bachelors Degree Masters Degree Preferred

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and High School Special Education Administrator.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide specialized academic instruction and learning for students with various disabilities who have an IEP
  • Meet state regulations for scheduling facilitating and writing IEPs and progress reports and manage all aspects of special education compliance for assigned student caseload
  • Provide direction and oversight to classroom Registered Behavioral Technicians regarding daily student schedules behavior plan implementation data collection material development and academic modifications for individualized IEP objectives
  • Regularly consult and collaborate with related service providers and attend consultation meetings as indicated in students IEPs
  • Ensure individual programs and services for students are aligned with IEPs and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Track and monitor students progress using academic functional and behavior data including data required for Massachusetts Alternative Assessment Portfolio (if needed for select students)
  • Responsible for providing progress notes for students on an IEP during each marking period
  • Conducts assessments and evaluations as needed and as determined by the special education administrator
  • Is able to manage challenging students that may engage inmaladaptive behaviors
  • Implements instructional and behavioral programs with support from BCBA as needed
  • Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and their records
  • Facilitates participation of assigned students in peer activities general classroom activities and maintains contact with teacher(s) to monitor student progress
  • Oversee communication with parents and outside providers

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School Year plus professional development days
SALARY AND BENEFITS: As per MTA/GEA contract
