Job Description

Job Title: School NurseReports to: Assigned Campus Principal Director of HR and Student ServicesAssignment: Assigned CampusWage/Hour Status: Exempt (187 days)Pay Grade: Nurse/Teacher Pay Scale Date Revised: 2025.5Terms of Employment:This FLSA exempt position (salaried nonhourly) is on a work calendar of 187 days per school year. Pay is based on years of experience from the annually reviewed and board of directors adopted Teachers Nurses Librarians and Counselors salary scale. Current year salary scales may be viewed on our school Purpose:Implement a comprehensive program of health services for the campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices for of an accredited professional nursing education programValid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse ExaminersCertified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screeningCPR and AED Certification as a TrainerExperience:Two years of nursing experience preferably in community healthSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defectsStrong organizational communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to implement policies and proceduresMajor Responsibilities and Duties:(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities skills efforts or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Nursing ServicesProvide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills the nursing process and established school health as a health advocate for parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached).Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administer medications according to district policy and and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs. Make referrals as and coordinate a continuing evaluation of campus health programs and make changes based on as a member of the campusbased school health advisory council (SHAC).InstructionParticipate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and faculty and staff as needed on healthrelated health counseling and instruction to individual students teachers and as a health liaison between the school physicians parents and student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students teachers parents and medical and health care professionals as in Admission Review and Dismissal Committee crisis team and school committees and develop Individual Health with other professionals regarding the implementation of healthrelated Individual Education Plan (IEP) items. Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with the permission of the regularly with the principal health services coordinator school counselor teachers parents food services and other staff regarding health services in the campus improvement committee for the assigned campus which also may serve as the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and the School Wellness Policy and evaluate immunization records. Conduct annual screenings as necessary. File and complete annual reports required by the state of and train nurse aide(s) and LVN(s) inclinic procedures and responsibilities according to district maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required including clinic records and accurate updated health records on all supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic with policies established by federal and state laws Texas Department of Health rule State Board of Education rule and board policy in the health services potential health and safety hazards to the with all district and campus routines and duties as assigned by the campus principal or Director of Human Resources and Student DevelopmentMaintain all necessary professional certifications and requirements to fulfill the duties of the school nurse including but not limited to certification in CPR vision and hearing screening and as a health behavior that is professional ethical and Responsibilities:NoneWorking Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress.
