Every Position contributes to the spiritual and social services mission of The Salvation Army
Harbour Light exists to restore hope and promote recovery in Vancouvers downtown eastside.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Dishwasher has the following responsibilities for: cleaning of dishes cutlery pots and pans and other essential materials within the kitchen.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:
- Maintains cleanliness of work area garbage floors dishes cutlery pots and pans
- Responsible in putting dishes back to their proper shelves.
- Maintain cleanliness of the plate rack cup rack equipment shelving dishwasher sinks and all the speed racks.
- Cleans all stainless steel after usage and mops floor when necessary.
- Polish and maintain silverware and other metal kitchen equipment.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean orderly and safe condition as per food safety plan.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:
The successful job applicant will have completed High School.
SPECIAL LICENSES DIPLOMAS CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:
WHIMS
First Aid
Food Safe
Criminal Record Check
MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Three months of prior related experience including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of standing manipulating foods and moderate amounts of lifting cutting chopping carrying supplies and walking a frequent amount of standing manipulating foods and moderate amounts of lifting cutting chopping carrying supplies and walking.
The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds.
CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires frequent attention to the preparation of food reading recipes adhering to safety procedures and regulations and occasionally ordering supplies.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:
The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend disburse or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget..
RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:
The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.
NOTE: May give direction to Bus persons and Dishwashers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbents work environment is typically in a kitchen in a ministry unit/social services facility.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Dealing with angry people
- Verbal Abuse
- Hot/Steamy environment
- Noisy
- Crowded in some cases
- Pressure with timelines
- Cuts Burns and entering freezers
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attacks by others (verbal)
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving objects
- Sharp objects
- Electrical hazards
- Injury from lifting
- Falling on wet/slippery floors
- Cuts Burns and entering freezers
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Universal Precautions
- Use of rubber mats
- Use coats provided to go into freezers
- Use gloves provided
- Immunization for Hepatitis B
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
HOURS OF WORK:
The normal work week is Monday to Friday 7: 3:00pm or as required.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position description will be reviewed at least annually. Changes or adjustments will be made following interaction with the Executive Director or Designate.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $24.02 to $24.40 with a maximum of $24.77.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
