Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: Teachers Licensure in Special Degree preferredREPORTS TO:High School PrincipalNATURE AND SCOPEThe teacher plans delivers and implements effective instruction for students with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities with emphasis on functional academics communication activities of daily living skills prevocational and vocational skills selfhelp skills and behavioral regulation. The teacher assesses student learning in accordance with state curriculum frameworks modifying as required district goals and the students IEP. The teacher creates an educational environment in which all students are safe and achieve. The teacher collaborates with other professionals and students families to help students engaging lessons with clear and measurable objectives based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks modified to address student IEP goals and effective researchbased instructional strategies for skills in academic social daily living and vocational curricular areas; establishing high expectations for all students presenting new material explicitly and in a developmentally appropriate manner connecting new learning to students prior knowledge helping students understand the relevance of what they are learning differentiating based on students needs and using a variety of pedagogic approaches. Use a multidisciplinary approach to gather various sources of information for progress monitoring in order to routinely implement databased decisionmaking practices to guide instruction and lesson a classroom with support staff including Instructional class operation by enforcing high academic and behavioral expectations implementing routines anticipating potential problems and taking appropriate preventative measures and treating all students with respect. Utilize appropriate classroom management strategies including a comprehensive positive behavior intervention system to ensure a successful and motivating instructional environment within the classroom and throughout the school for designated student understanding of learning objectives at the beginning middle and end of the instructional cycle with student selfassessments frequent formative measures with periodic summative and standardized measures. Understanding of the foundations and implementation of transition services for students with disabilities including skills necessary for postsecondary success such as time management planning and prioritizing study skills social skills healthcare skills and safety in school and community the Individual Education Programs of students in the class participate in team meetings and collaborate with special education and support staff the students academic social daily living and vocational skills progress to their parents or guardians in a respectful and responsive OF EMPLOYMENT:In accordance with the Amesbury Teachers Union ContractEVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of school committee policy
