Qualifications: Bachelors degree in education or related field Some graduate level coursework in speech and language development or disorderspreferred Experience with children/adolescents; special education setting preferred Understanding of special needs population and therapeutic milieu Ability to work both collaboratively and independently Strong communication organization and writing skillsSchedule: 10 months/full time Salary and benefits including vacation time determined by the Executive DirectorSupervised by: Clinical DirectorResponsibilities: Provide onetoone and/or small group support and instruction to students withsocial pragmatic and perspective taking difficulties Collaborate with Speech and Language Consultant to improve understanding ofstudents language processing and speech as they relate to social interactions Work with the Clinical Director and Clinicians to develop a roster of students andservices Collaborate with Speech and Language Consultant to develop service andinstruction plans Work with Clinical Director to develop and maintain a schedule that meets theneeds of individual students Problem solve creatively and collaboratively with student staff and parents tomeet individual student needs and achieve success Communicate to Program Clinicians and other appropriate staff regarding studentprogress and strategies being taught Keep uptodate records of student grades/performance Contribute to the writing of IEPs and progress reports by providing writtenupdates; attend IEP meetings as appropriate Maintain a clean and organized teaching environment Respond to student behaviors in the classroom and throughout the milieu byutilizing Gifford behavioral systems Utilizing Safety Care techniques help maintain community safety Participate in various meetings as defined by supervisor Participate actively in supervision and training to increase understanding oflearning issues refine teaching practices and continually improve overall jobperformance Attend oncea month administrator led inservice training Remain up to date (daily checks) with all internal email and voicemail messages Participate in a few night meetings Help maintain a safe positive work and learning environment for all by adheringto the principles of conduct described in Giffords policy manuals and by treatingall Gifford community members with fairness and respect Demonstrate respect for diversity among our staff and student body and promotean atmosphere which values this diversity Understand and represent Giffords culture and mission to students families andothers Within the context of your position at Gifford and as the job evolves be open tonew ideas opportunities and responsibilities assigned by your supervisor and/orthe Executive DirectorPhysical Requirements Ability to participate in outdoor physical activities to include kneeling stoopingand lifting up to 25 pounds
