WTNH News 8 Connecticuts first television station and a proud member of the Nexstar Media Group is seeking a visionary and audiencecentric Content Director to lead our multiplatform newsroom.
This role requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of digital metrics audience behavior and content strategy to oversee our news operations across digital streaming and traditional broadcast platforms. The ideal candidate will drive innovation foster community engagement and spearhead initiatives to grow our audience across all platforms.
This position will have full oversight of the stations news operations with a strong emphasis on growing digital and linear audiences optimizing digital KPIs and evolving content delivery for modern platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Oversee the newsrooms operations ensuring cohesive and comprehensive news coverage across digital streaming and linear platforms. Work with corporate management to establish direction
Digital Innovation: Develop and implement a forwardthinking digital content strategy that prioritizes audience growth engagement and retention.
KPI Management: Monitor analyze and optimize digital performance using key performance indicators such as page views video views watch time unique visitors and social engagement.
OTT/Streaming Oversight: Lead the stations OTT and streaming content strategy including live programming breaking news coverage and ondemand content.
Editorial Excellence: Ensure high journalistic standards and integrity across all content fostering a culture of accuracy fairness and community relevance.
Team Development: Recruit mentor and develop newsroom leadership and staff to build a culture of innovation accountability and excellence.
CrossDepartment Collaboration: Work closely with digital marketing and technical teams to ensure content is timely discoverable and aligned with brand goals.
Community Engagement: Strengthen WTNHs commitment to serving the community by ensuring diverse and inclusive coverage that reflects the audience we serve.
Revenue Collaboration: Partner with sales and marketing departments to create audiencedriven monetizable content opportunities.
Industry Awareness: Stay informed of industry trends emerging technologies and best practices in digital and linear content delivery.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 57 years of progressive newsroom management experience including significant experience in digital/streaming content strategy.
Track Record: Proven success in driving audience growth across multiple platforms.
Analytical Skills: Proficiency in digital analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics Chartbeat Social News Desk) and a strong understanding of digital KPIs.
Technical Proficiency: Experience managing OTT platforms content management systems and newsroom automation systems.
Leadership: Strong editorial judgment leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fastpaced evolving news environment and adapt to changing technologies and audience behaviors.
Innovation: Passion for innovation experimentation and continuous improvement in news delivery.
Preferred Skills:
Market Experience: At least 10 years management experience in both large and midsize markets.
DigitalFirst Mindset: Background in digitalfirst or streamingfirst newsrooms.
SEO & Monetization: Knowledge of search engine optimization digital monetization strategies and emerging content platforms (e.g. FAST channels YouTube TikTok).
Experience working across department lines in an organization
Strong fiscal experience for both operational and capital expenditures
