Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Plan and provide a continuum of services to include direct consult and supplementary aids and services for students with physical disabilities. Assess students and plan therapeutic intervention to eliminate/reduce obstacles or decrease the impact of impairments that interfere with students ability to access their environment and participate in their educational program.

Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelors degree Masters degree or Doctorate in Physical
  2. Valid Texas license as a physical therapist granted by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Knowledge of medical information and indications for physical therapy
  2. Skill in the use of test and measurements for assessing physical
  3. Ability to administer manual exercises and physical therapy
  4. Ability to instruct students and manage their
  5. Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal

Experience/Other Requirements:

  1. Preferred oneyear experience as a physical

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Therapy

  1. Plan and provide a continuum of services consistent with the goals and services outlined in students Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for dismissal of physical therapy
  3. Secure purchase adjust and recommend equipment to meet student

Assessment

  1. Assess students with physical disabilities and make recommendations regardingeligibility for related services.
  2. Participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretations of assessment data appropriate placement and goal setting for students with physical disabilities according to district procedures.
  3. Adapt or recommend adaptation of the school

Consultation

  1. Consult with educational staff regarding the use of specialized equipment and
  2. Consult with district and outside personnel including private therapists and other medical staff regarding the physical and medical needs of students.
  3. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to help school personnelappropriately support students with physical disabilities.
  4. Consult with parents teachers administrators and other providers to enhance students ability to access and participate in their educational environment

Student Management

  1. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  2. Consults with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to the IEP.
  3. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Managing student behavior and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Program Management

  1. Continually evaluate and follow best practices for provision of physical therapy in the educational environment.
  2. Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive materials for student and campus needs
  3. Be responsible for maintenance storage and purchasing of necessary adaptive equipment for physical therapy needs.

Administration

  1. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  2. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and local board policy.
  3. Comply with all district and assigned campus routines and
  4. Effectively communicate with colleagues students and
  5. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job
  6. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise physical therapy assistant(s).
