Job Description
Job Summary
The Boiler Operator is responsible for the operation of the boiler and boiler processes.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Nothing in this job description restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
- Starts boiler fire; may operate water tube boiler coal gas or woodfired boilers.
- Checks reverse osmosis unit.
- Monitors feed water boiler water water softener and water treatment unit.
- Add chemicals on a daily basis.
- Monitors oil temperature in turbine bearings; measures oil in underground storage tanks.
- Performs daily greasing and oiling.
- Conducts coal inventory; keeps area around coal hopper clean.
- Assures equipment and work area is clean after each shift.
- Maintains safety as top priority in accordance with all company safety rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 12 years prior experience in boiler operation and/or rendering facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of water tube boilers principles of combustion water composition and steam generation.
- Basic math skills; performs various calculations including heating and fuel consumption rate.
- Good oral and written skills.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to walk stand sit climb balance stoop kneel crawl and crouch.
- Frequently must push pull move or lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
Job functions will be carried out in a rendering facility which requires tolerance for wet and/or slippery floors and high heat and/or cold temperatures.
