Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forFacilities Coordinator & Sound Designer.

The Philip H Hagemann Performing Arts Department at the University of Southern Indiana a public university in Evansville Indiana seeks applications for a 12month administrative staff position as the Facilities Coordinator of the USI Performance will begin June 1 to August 1 depending on candidates availability.

The Facilities Coordinator & Sound Designer will serve as the sound designer and engineer (and/or mentor to student sound designers) for all USI Theatre productions (plays and musicals) in both the USI Performance Center and the Mallette Studio Theatre. The typical season includes 34 productions in the Performance Center and 12 productions in the Studio Theatre.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and oversight to all theatre productions University presentations and campus events in the Performance Center throughout the year. Oversee the use of the Performance Center by any University office or department and any outside group that arranges for use of the venue.

  • Provide support to production coordinator/technical director on all productions within the scope of USI theatre. Coordinate and provide support for loadin and load out operations.

  • Schedule student production work crews when outside groups require support or trained expertise for their events.

  • Provide supervision support and oversight to student production work crews as they support the audio lighting and video needs of theatre productions and events booked into the two venues.

  • Monitor and maintain all technical systems within the Performance Center reporting the need for outside maintenance of systems to Managing Director with calendar recommendations.

  • Maintain a calendar of events which takes note of the production process of the University Theatre. Advise and assist Special Events with calendar planning.

  • Attend production meetings as requested by the Performing Arts Department and New Harmony Theatre.

  • Provide Sound design and engineering services as requested by Performing Arts Department and New Harmony Theatre both within the Performance Center.

  • Maintain house light plot and provide basic lighting to serve additional University programming.

  • When necessary provide assistance and close coordination to house management issues with the Management and Marketing Director of University Theatres.

  • Maintain security and safe operations of Performance Center.

  • Help to maintain the overall Performance Center facility and all backstage and support systems. Move and position equipment as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelors in Technical Theatre (Sound emphasis). Significant related college coursework together with substantial experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelors degree with subsequent degree completion required.

  • Working knowledge of sound boards amplification systems microphone systems (including wireless). Experience with all aspects of sound support including running a live mix.

  • Trouble shooting skills in sound and light board operation required. Basic knowledge of light board operations.

  • SFX software sound design experience.

  • Showcontrol systems and digital audio experience.

  • Knowledge of microcomputers word processing spreadsheet and electronic mail software.

  • Excellent oral communication and listening skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in theatre lighting video/projections video walls and rigging video and photo editing and music composition.

  • Ability to read music.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

  • Yearround full time position that requires a flexibility of schedule. Work time varies based on theater season needs
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required in accord with theatre and events programming.
