This position will design prepare or revise roadway plans using CADD (Microstation and Geopack) for Division let Spot Safety TIP and other construction projects. Process and evaluate survey raw data files in preparation for each project designed by the Division Design Construct (DDC) Unit. Create horizontal and vertical alignments typical sections summary of quantities pavement marking plans right of way plans and erosion control plans ensuring conformance with the project scope while using the appropriate State and Federal design standards. Provide design alternatives for proposed projects with design/construction challenges. Design conceptual maps for the Division staff to use at public hearings for property owners to better understand the scope of a proposed project and as a support document for funding requests. Review and check final construction plans (prepared by DDC Engineering Technicians and private engineering firms) to ensure they are complete and ready for letting. Serves as technical support to CADD users throughout Division 10. This position will prioritize and assign projects to DDC Engineering Technicians (during design and various stages of surveying) such that the workload is balanced and able to be completed on time. This includes planning scheduling and monitoring progress during the development of plans. Provide updates or revisions to technicians to ensure the project scope is met. This position will also supervise DDC Engineering Technicians during design and data collection/construction stakeout of proposed projects. Assist DDC Engineer during interviews for vacant positions in the DDC Unit.

Possess working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods materials and equipment. Skill in the operation of survey equipment computer terminals and drafting instruments. Ability to understand explain and administer contracts; interpret construction plans provisions standards and specifications. Train coordinate and supervise subordinate employees. Communicate establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers contractors personnel and the general public.

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
