Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs analyzing and resolving problems and interpreting engineering specifications on medium to highly complex assignments for BC Hydro projects and operations.
Meet safety cost quality and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs recommending payment for work completed by contractors preparing progress reports coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at BC Hydro.
Participate in BC Hydros engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis contributing to the development of technical standards exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information recommending safe engineering designs and making decisions related to methods and designs as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability at BC Hydro.
Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders and performing activities such as defining the scope of engineering/geoscience services to be provided establishing the basic design criteria with the client approving all related technical documentation and assessing and reporting on work progress against standards objectives and specifications to support completion of projects safely with quality within budget and on time.
Make decisions and recommendations of a complex technical nature including the establishment of design bases criteria and concepts and/or on matters affecting the management of engineering/geoscience resources and activities to support major work assignments for the engineering divisions at BC Hydro.

Prior to commencement on assignment the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner or the use of their firms Permit to Practice with EGBC.
EGBC Registrants provided to BC Hydro through this assignment shall work under BC Hydros Professional Practice Management Plan Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firms Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract with BC Hydro will be retained by BC Hydro to satisfy EGBC Bylaws. Education and Skills Registered Professional Engineer (.) or Professional Geoscientist (.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC

Intermediate English skills for professional environment written and spoken
Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software

Distribution Maintenance :
Additional Experience and Role Accountabilities
All the required Experience and Role Accountabilities shall relate to Overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV.
Manage distribution assets through the effective and efficient application of life cycle asset management principles and practices.
Analyze equipment failure data; monitor equipment endoflife trends; and work with test labs and engineering specialists on testing equipment according to industry and national standards.
Manage selected assets which form part of the Overhead distribution system.
Initiate special programs for replacement of defective equipment and collaborate internally and externally with stakeholders equipment experts design and line resources and suppliers.
Contribute to and support the development of asset sustain/maintain strategies and standards and in the definition of work programs.
Create performance criteria develop and recommend equipment spares and replacement strategies.
Participate in strategic sourcing vendor analysis and negotiation.
Support assessment of asset performance and health and recommend continuous improvement.
Facilitate multidisciplinary committees to develop optimized standards inclusive of maintenance policy business rules maintenance definition and engineering standards and that address needs of internal and external stakeholders.
Develop business cases and investment justifications for implementing programs and initiatives.
Interact with stakeholders and service providers and resolve issues monitor performance of programs ensure standards are being met and participate as a subject matter expert in audits of asset programs and service providers.
Investigate analyze and solve a variety of distribution system problems as well as develop engineering techniques devise new approaches and/or apply existing criteria in new ways.
Additional Education and Skills
Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in Canada Power Engineering preferred
Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in both Overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV
Demonstrated experience in the design and development of maintenance standards and developing innovative techniques for maintaining Overhead and/or underground distribution infrastructure and equipment
Ability to perform technical research and provide reliable advice on difficult problems including skills stray currents grounding load flow and power systems analysis which can augment the departmental mandate
Ability to prepare and interpret engineering plans and specifications
Strong knowledge of industry standards and a keen asset management business acumen
Familiarity and background in reliability centered maintenance
Experience in risk and hazard evaluation
Experience in statistical analysis techniques for evaluating asset health
Willingness to travel
Maintain good standing in Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) throughout the term of the contract.
Maintain Drivers License Class 5 throughout the term of the contract
