The Virology/Serology Unit of the NC State Laboratory of Public Health is currently accepting applications for a Medical Laboratory Technologist II vacancy. The primary responsibility of this position is as an advancedlevel technologist in the serology laboratory routinely performing a wide range of medical laboratory tests on serum and other bodily fluids for the detection of antibodies and antigens to various infectious diseases. This position will perform diagnostic testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and other QA policies as well as perform testing for the purposes of viral surveillance. This position will provide technical leadership and training for other personnel on various highly technical tests for HIV Hepatitis and Rubella with a focus on HIV and HCV NAAT methods utilizing automated platforms and manual tests. This position will assist in the evaluation performance verification/validation and implementation of new methods and techniques. Once fully trained the goal for this position is to serve as a lead for HIV and HCV serologic testing.
The Serology Unit Medical Laboratory Technologist II will perform duties that include though are not limited to the following:
Perform clinical laboratory testing per standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the detection of analytes indicating the presence of HIV Hepatitis and Rubella
Perform and document quality assurance and quality control activities to Federal State and SLPH regulations
Utilize STARLIMS and Ideagen compliance software for specimen submission results entry and document management
Provide laboratory testing consultation to physicians epidemiologists nurses & other laboratorians
Perform instrument QC maintenance and technical troubleshooting
Participate in verifications validations and implementation of new diagnostic assays
Maintain monthly maintenance and LevyJenning reports
Assisting with the inventory and procurement of reagents supplies and consumables

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
Bachelors degree in medical laboratory technology chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area;
OR
Associates degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of medical laboratory experience;
OR
Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of medical laboratory experience;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
