Robotics
Position Summary
The High School Robotics Sponsor is responsible for leading mentoring and managing the schools competitive robotics team. This role includes guiding students in the design construction and programming of robots fostering problemsolving and teamwork skills and preparing students for local state and national competitions. The sponsor will collaborate with school staff parents and industry professionals to create a supportive and innovative learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelors degree in education engineering computer science or a related field preferred).
- Experience with robotics platforms preferred.
- Basic knowledge of programming languages and mechanical/electrical systems.
- Ability to supervise and mentor students in both technical and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for practices and competitions.
- Ability to demonstrate patience flexibility and a commitment to student learning.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff and contribute to a supportive learning environment.
- Must demonstrate reliable attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions
- Guide students in the design construction and programming of competitive robots fostering growth in both individual STEM skills and collaborative problemsolving.
- Establish performance criteria for competition participation and evaluate student contributions regularly through progress assessments design reviews coding performance and scrimmagebased analysis.
- Plan organize and supervise team meetings build sessions and competition preparation.
- Delegate responsibilities to mentors or volunteers.
- Coordinate and supervise student travel and behavior at all robotics competitions and events.
- Collaborate with the Activities Department to schedule competitions and manage logistical arrangements.
- Build unity and alignment within the robotics program and ensure continuity with feeder programs or middle school STEM initiatives in Ankeny CSD.
- Monitor student eligibility for participation and ensure student compliance with academic and conduct expectations.
- Promote the robotics program to increase student participation community support and awareness.
- Establish and pursue annual performance goals aligned with school and district objectives.
- Maintain accurate student records including participation medical information and competition performance.
- Manage inventory of robotics equipment tools and uniforms and coordinate ordering and maintenance needs.
Other Functions
- Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Establish and promote a fundamental philosophy focused on teamwork innovation technical skill development discipline respect and good sportsmanship.
- Build positive relationships with administration parents booster organizations and industry mentors.
- Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees and students fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
