Course Description:

Study of the principles and contents of the Ontario curriculum and other supporting documents from the Ministry to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for teaching mathematics at the elementary and middle school levels. Critical analysis of the programs and teaching materials used in the classroom. Examination of teaching and assessment strategies while supporting students and valuing their linguistic and cultural diversity as well as their specific needs in the planning of mathematical activities. Integration of educational technology in the teaching of mathematics.

Requirements:

An equivalent level of education/experience may substitute for the required education and/or experience. A Masters degree in Education is required; preference will be given to a Doctorate in Education; At least one of the following: 1) Recent fulltime teaching experience in a school or administrative role within a school board including two years of implementing the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum with a specialist qualification in mathematics or a current peerreviewed research record in mathematics or a recent Ph.D. comprehensive examination in mathematics; Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario context regarding mathematics; Proven ability to apply the Professional Practice Standards and the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers. The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those listed above.
