The English Language Development (ELD)teacher will work to ensure successful implementation of the fourhour model of English Language Developmentinstruction as approved by the Arizona Department of ELD teacher will work closely with the School Principal the English Language Acquisition Program Coordinator the Director of Curriculum and Instruction the Director of Professional Development as well as collaborate with the Structured English Immersion (SEI) teachers as the assigned school site(s).
The primary goal of the ELD teacher position will be to increase the achievement of the English Language Learner (ELL) students at the assigned school site(s) by using the ELPS to implement the approved fourhour model of ELD instruction. As a secondary goal the ELD teacher will assist teachers in the process of continual improvement of the school ELD program.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with multiage students grouped by similar language proficiency levels the ELD teacher will focus on and accelerate the language acquisition of the ELL students by using the States Principles for Accelerated English Language Learning (SEI Super Strategies).
- Provides the framework for ELD instructional planning as a prerequisite to the States Language Arts standards the ELPS (supported by the Discrete Skills Inventory
- Provides and supports ELD instruction which is inclusive of the academic cultural and social needs of ELL students.
- Collaborates with teachers at the school site(s) during planning time to discuss implementation of the ELD program and provide targeted assistance with ELL students as needed.
- Provides ELDinstructional modeling to teachers as needed.
- Attends school site and/or grade level collaboration meetings for ongoing research discussion refinement and partnering of ideas.
- Participates in the assessment of student academic progress and the management of student assessment data.
- Works with school personnel to effectively prepare ELL students for standardized assessments throughout the school year.
- Recommends improvements to the School Principal within the schools ELD instructional curricular and assessment programs. This will be viewed as a support of the overall philosophy of continual school improvement in these areas.
- Serves on the districts English Language Acquisition Program Committee and adheres to the Districts policies and procedures set forth by the District.
Qualifications:
- Individual must possess a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
- A valid teaching certificate or proof of eligibility with an SEI or ESL endorsement is required.
- Ability to fulfill requirements to be Appropriately Certifiedin Arizona.
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with all members of the staff and communicate effectively with parents.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
- At least one year of field experience (student teaching) or approved internship.
