Job Description

Job Summary

Reporting to Student Academic Affairs the Outreach and Support Academic Advisor prioritizes outreach to identified student subpopulations to develop pedagogy and curriculum to enhance student academic success by designing developing and facilitating student support programming and through a case management model. The position emphasizes student development resilience and retention ensuring targeted interventions for diverse student subpopulations.

With a strong commitment to studentcentered decisionmaking the Advisor partners with students to develop individualized academic success plans aligning supports programming and curriculum with their needs goals and lived experiences.

The Advisor collaborates with Student Affairs the Academic Success Centre Counselling the Centre for Accessibility Services and other professional units to develop and implement student success initiatives. The role also includes proactive outreach policy interpretation and serving as a student liaison and partner ensuring academic advising meets the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) in Higher Education: Advising Standards.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree from a recognized institution is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in student academic advising within a postsecondary environment.
  • A Graduate Certificate or graduate degree in Academic Advising or related post secondary student development area is preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional development relevant to academic advising.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop student success programming outreach initiatives and advising strategies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse student populations.
  • Proven problemsolving abilities creativity and resourcefulness in student advising and program development.
  • Experience in designing and delivering presentations workshops and student engagement initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills fostering collaboration across academic and student service units.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development including engagement with advising associations such as NACADA.
  • Knowledge of the needs of diverse student populations including underrepresented groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; familiarity with Banner and Achieve Appointment Manager software is an asset.
  • Adherence to ethical and professional advising standards including compliance with FOIPPA regulations.
