Level I $15.14 $17.04 Hourly

Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is looking for Groundskeepers to ensures Island Grove Park and Arena facilities are maintained and standards are met regarding the maintenance of park amenities and overall curb appeal. This individual will work with a diverse team on park and facility maintenance projects and event maintenance including events like theGreeley Stampede the Weld County Fair and large dog shows.

The Groundskeeper role is a handson hardworking individual who will deal with a large number public and private events. The City relies on the Groundskeeper to follow safety protocols while being responsive thorough and resourceful gogetter with a customer focused mindset.

Scheduling for this position varies and may include working evenings weekends and holidays as followed by State and Federal law.

Must be able to work nights and weekends for special events such as Greeley Blues Jam Stampede The Weld County Fair as well as National Regional and local Dog Shows.

Experience Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

Level I

  • Minimal to no previous experience required.
  • Possess a valid drivers license and a good driving record.

Level II

  • Maintain all of the responsibilities for Levels I.
  • Previous experience in ground maintenance operations.
  • Possess a valid drivers license and a good driving record.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assist in proper loading and securement of equipment in the field.
  • Ability to operate small equipment such as weed eater edger and backpack blower.
  • Ability to safely operate riding mower equipment up to 6 wide.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry basic plumbing and basic electrical.
  • Operate large area turf mowers from 72 wide to 16 wide including preventative daily maintenance and upkeep of equipment for Level IIs.
  • Ability to clean and maintain mowing equipment.
  • Ability to see and maneuver around obstacles in the path of travel during mowing operations.
  • Ability to work outside under widely varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate and perform the duties required of the position.
  • Knowledge of incident response and handling methodologies.
  • Customer service skills including the ability to actively listen address customer needs defuse tense situations and maintain an open flexible and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to prioritize work meet deadlines and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to maintain a strong work ethic positive problemsolving attitude and enthusiasm for the work performed.
  • Ability to selfstart and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.

Essential Functions:

Level I

  • Cleans and stocks restroomsdaily.
  • General Park turf and Event maintenance.
  • Cleans and removes debris from shelters and turf areas.
  • Empties trash receptacles regularly throughout assigned areas.
  • Assists with repairs and maintenance of playgrounds shelters.
  • Pulls weeds in landscape beds.
  • Performs hand watering and simple water valve operation for lawns and landscape beds.
  • Plants and prunes forestryrelated or horticultural maintenance.
  • Cleans and maintains Right of Way medians and tree lawns.
  • Operates small equipment such as weed eater edger and backpack blower.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Level II

  • Must be able to perform all duties of grounds keeper level 1.
  • Assists in proper loading and securement of equipment in the field.
  • Performs basic irrigation tasks including routine sprinkler tests hand watering sprinkler clock and zone adjustments.
  • Assists with herbicide application and other more technical weed management tasks.
  • Performs more technical irrigation work to include mainline lateral repair system redesign and valve replacements.
  • Applies fertilizer pesticide and insecticide chemical applications using manual and rideon spreaders handheld and backpack sprayers.
  • Operates riding mower and heavy equipment such as skid steer and loader.
  • Repairs and maintains picnic tables and split rail fencing.
  • Maintains outdoor facilities for reservations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment andPhysical Requirements:

  • Exposure to high traffic areas in medians and rightorways.
  • Work outside with exposure to all weather elements.
  • Long periods of time involved in planting hand weeding and maintaining grounds using a shovel rake and other tools.
  • Hours may be flexible depending on assigned area 3240 hours per wk. Primarily MF 6 a.m. 2:30 p.m. with weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Extended hours operating grounds equipment i.e. poly cord trimmers mowers & a multitude of other equipment.
  • May be exposed to loud amplified sound equipment while working arena show grounds.
  • Follow workplace safety rules at all times.
  • May handle difficult situations using tact patience and good judgment.
  • Manual labor prolonged standing kneeling bending and walking climbing ladders and stairs.
  • May lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • May lift arm above shoulder level and to move objects frequently.
  • Mix and use chemicals for weed and grass control following label and local regulations.
  • Manual dexterity enough to operate hand and power tools.
  • Vision enough to perform above functions and to read printed instructions.
  • Exposure to vegetation that can cause punctures biting insects wildlife offleash dogs.
  • Exposure to homeless/transient individuals and camps which may pose biohazard risks.
