About KOTH:
King of the Hills (KOTH) is the flagship operation of Vault Minerals Limited and one of the largest gold mines in Australia. After a significant expansion KOTH now features a 4.7 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) processing plant providing a solid platform for longterm production growth. This dynamic operation combines openpit and underground mining with exciting exploration activities driving the future. KOTH is located approximately 900 km northeast of Perth and 25 km north of Leonora within the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.


Job Description:
Vault Minerals is looking for a qualified Drill & Blast Engineer Open Pit to join our team at the King of the Hills Gold Mine. In this critical role you will be responsible for designing and delivering effective drill and blast plans for open pit operations. Your duties will include developing blast designs managing tieins and overseeing the reporting and reconciliation of blast performance and conditions. Additionally you will contribute to the ongoing optimisation of the mining operation ensuring safe and efficient blasting practices that support the overall success of the mine.

This role is offered on a 8/6 FIFO from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety adhering to Vault Minerals safety standards.
  • Deliver detailed drill and blast designs including drill plans blast masters reconciliation plans and tiein plans to the Open Pit mining contractor.
  • Develop and improve data tracking and reconciliation systems for all Drill & Blast functions.
  • Provide engineering support to Geologists Mine Surveyors planners and contractors.
  • Assist in streamlining reporting systems and generating conceptual improvement plans.
  • Conduct software and planning gap analysis and provide data analysis as required.
  • Monitor engineering systems and business processes identify improvement opportunities and implement changes.
  • Support site initiatives continuous improvement efforts and assist with operational activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing management and improvement of mining data and planning systems.
  • Collaborate with the Mining team to enhance drill and blast engineering processes focusing on safety cost and production efficiency.

About you:

You are a resultsdriven Drill & Blast Engineer with strong expertise in open pit operations. You excel in designing and executing drill and blast plans ensuring safe and effective blasting practices that optimise mining performance. With a solid technical background you apply your skills to resolve complex challenges and improve blast effectiveness. You are adept at analysing blast results and reconciling performance data to drive continuous improvement. Additionally you demonstrate high emotional intelligence maintaining resilience under pressure and staying focused on achieving objectives even in demanding situations.

Key factors to your success include:

  • 2 years experience in a similar role
  • Bachelors degree in mining engineering
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Vulcan Deswik Reconcilor Orica Shot Plus
  • Experience optimising drill & blast plans for increased efficiency and production lowering cost.
  • Experience developing mine tracking and reconciliation systems
  • WA Drivers Licence C Class
  • Australian Working Rights

Desirable skills/experience:

  • Honours Degree
  • Formal Business/Commerce studies
  • Exposure to a variety of different ore body types and models
  • Exposure to different mining methods and associated economics
  • Exposure to contract mining environments
  • Compilation of operational and strategic plans
