Job Description

Shelburne MiddleSchoolis seeking highly qualified applicants for a Special Education Instructional Coachopening for the 202526 academic school year.

210 Day (10.5month) Contract beginninglate July 2025.

Salary Range: $58375 to $89788 (based on 202526 Salary Scale).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Special Education Instructional CoachMiddle School

LOCATION: Middle School

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Principal

GRADE/RANK: TM13 (10.5month contract)

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Special Education Instructional Coach acts as teacher leader collaborator and manager to ensure that specially designed instruction is provided IEPs are maintained and implemented effectively to ensure student achievement and learning is maximized for all students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Under the direction of the principal the special education instructional coach is responsible for assisting with the following:

  • Models best practice in planning implementation and reflection of specialized instruction and inclusive strategies with an emphasis on coteaching. Targeted support is provided in grades 68.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of high leverage practices for inclusive classrooms designing instruction for students with disabilities and middle school curriculum.
  • Participates in curriculum development and actively leads staff development independently and in partnership with the instructional coaches and/or special education coordinator.
  • Case manages and facilitates services for middle school eligible students who are placed outside the divisions schools.
  • Supporting implementation of special education programming in the division to provide a continuum of special education services at the middle school.
  • Oversees compliance for new and provisionally licensed special education teachers at the school.
  • Collects organizes manages interprets and uses data effectively to guide instruction with a focus on the achievement of students with disabilities.
  • Creates enthusiasm for learning shows initiative based on school and student needs and influences best practice at the school and division level.
  • Builds rapport with the school community and encourages a positive school environment focused on improving student learning.
  • Frequently participates in activities that foster personal learning and growth as an educator and as an instructional coach for school and division growth.
  • Models traits of efficacy flexibility consciousness interdependence craftsmanship and positive relationships (including effective communication with others).
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Principal Director of Special Education and the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues principles and practices in public special education and the ability to apply them to the needs of a school. Must possess knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development specialized instructional practices coteaching interpretation of test data positive behavior supports and school improvement. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Has Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in K12 general curriculum special education. Experience in middle and/or secondary education is required. Endorsement in Curriculum/ Instruction or Administration/Supervision is preferred.
  • Has a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Has demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics for working effectively with students school personnel and members of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: school office classroom gym cafeteria auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking standing stooping lifting up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular contact with special needs children is necessary. Regular contact with staff members students parents and community members is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
